    Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Did anyone see this one yet? I liked the first two a lot and this one also looks very interesting. There is a new death dealer in Rhona Mitra (hot) since this takes place before the first two films.

I'll be seeing this this weekend.

Actually, I want to see this, Gran Torino, and Defiance so I need to set aside some movie time.

I saw it yesterday. I liked it . . . good story. I like this series because of the mythology they push forward, even if there are some slight holes in it. They added in some more info about how the humans interact with the vampires. Good stuff, but nothing startling.

Rhona Mitra was picked because she looks like Kate Beckinsale - a must because this ties in with the overall story.

The big guy with the deep voice (lycan) from the original Underworld is back in this new one. Not sure what his name is.

This movie is basically Lucien's story. If you go back and watch the original Underworld again after seeing "Rise of the Lycans," you can see it from Lucien's point of view. I plan to do that tomorrow.

I really wanted them to talk some more about why only one of the triumvirate of vampires is active at a time (a topic that really interests me), but they didn't really touch on it.

I hear ya. That's why I enjoyed the first two more. The second one wasn't as good as the first, but the eye candy made up for it

I took my nephews last night to see it. I thought it was really good and it was a very well done prequel. Victor was a bastard!!!

Are these movies gory? They have kinda interested me but I have yet to see any of them. I don't care for excess gore/horror.

Hmm..interesting. I liked the first two movies but I wasn't planning on seeing this one 'cause it had that "Crappy Cashing-In Prequel" feel to it for me. Opinions here are changing my mind though!

How would you guys rate it out of 5?

Sonja (the new girl, Rhona Mitra) is Victor's daughter. She looks a lot like Kate because it ties into the story.

Heard it was terrible from my friends who saw it (who had the same feelings as I did on the first two), so it went from a "I'll watch this sometime soon" to a "I'll catch it on TV in a few years."

This movie seems to have a lot of gore - tons of blood spurting out and impaling everywhere. It's not that out in the open though because of the film's color palette. Everything is very dark with cool blue tones.

Even though traditionalists would classify the Underworld movies as horror, I wouldn't. Even though the story includes icons of horror, vampires and werewolves, they're more about the mythology that they create and the tribulations of the characters. The monsters are just a vehicle for themes about enslavement, a forbidden love affair, and maybe even bigotry.

I would rate it maybe 4.5 out of 5.

The good: They added to the mythology . . . of which I am a big fan. Solid story telling of one of the mythology's backstories.

Negatives: I knew how it was going to end . . . in the same vein as any prequel really. I knew Kate Beckinsale couldn't be in this one due to the story, but I really missed seeing her in an Underworld movie.

In short . . . if you liked the original Underworld, you'll like this one, regardless of your opinions on the second movie.

Underworld, Rise of the Lycans: Watched it last night, awesome movie. I was never really into the Underworld series, but i love myself some werewolves and a side order of vampires.

I remember watching some segments of the first and the end, saw the second in its entirety. This one, the 3rd or the prequel as it actually is, was good.

The story made sense which is what really made the movie flow. Sill not too sure how Lucian was able to be a pure blood but the effects and combat were awesome. Almost makes me want to watch the first one
