The Pit Stop: The Official "Amazing Race" Thread

The new cast was released, and as usual it looks interesting and diverse. http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing....php?season=14

My final 3: Amanda and Kris, Tammy and Victor, Kara and Jaime (their description gives me a Dustin and Kandace Vibe).

First to be Philiminated: Linda and Steve.

I'm already thinking I'll be rooting for the School of Rock actor/writer if he is as funny in real life as that movie was.

Here are some interviews and such to tide you over until the premiere (tomorrow night!)

Like this interview with Phil from The Futon Critic:
When asked if he ever stands on the sidelines and secretly wishes he could do the challenges that he sees play out season after season, Keoghan admitted that he's not a newbie at doing extreme challenges. "Since the age of 19, I have spent most of my career doing crazy things. I have an unofficial world record for bungee jumping where nine of us jumped off a bridge at one time. I have my reindeer skiing license, which I got in 1998... I spent three days in a nudist resort and I putted a golf ball across Scotland last year in four days. 107 miles. One golf club, many golf balls lost from the West coast of Scotland to the East. So I've spent my entire career doing many of the things that they do on the race."

Or this preview from USA Today:
And in cosmetic fixes, Race's route will be updated with Google maps, the show will sport new graphics and a new opening sequence, and the musical score will get a tuneup. "We had a little too many cymbals crashing," van Munster says.

I loved the theme music, so I'm disappointed they messed with it, but everything else sounds great.

I thought the premiere was awesome, but I hated the new theme music. Diverse teams as usual. Christie and Jodi think being flight attendants will give them a leg up, but it didn't help the air-traffic controllers in season six, so I doubt it will help Christie and Jodi. At best, it helped them get second-to-last. Steve and Linda are pathetic. He's pathetic for constantly yelling at her to pick up the pace, even though she's clearly out of shape, when he's moving slowly himself (though faster than her), but I will give them credit for doing the cheese blocks like a sled. All that credit went out the window when it took them eight hundred billion billion hours to find the pit stop. Morons. Margie and Luke are surprisingly strong. I thought he would be, but his mother did not look that fit. However, they breezed through the first leg.

The bungee-jump roadblock was, in my opinion, the best bungee challenge they have had on the show because the drop (70 stories) was so great. And anytime you tell people the drop will be 70 stories, you know it is going to strike fear into those doing the roadblock. Except that the roadblock clue gave it away. Anytime you ask "who has nerves of steel?" you know the task will be scary, most likely involving heights or some kind of fast drop. The clues are much better when they are deceptive.

The cheese task was great, but the wooden devices used to carry them were sure constructed poorly. I don't think there was one that didn't break. But with the slippery hill, the locals laughing hysterically at the teams, and the cheese wheels rolling everywhere, the task was hilarious.

It was great to see Phil use sign-language, and also great to see him Philiminate Preston and Jennifer, whose petty bickering probably would have been grating before too long. Not to mention the fact that they gave a pathetic exit speech, saying they were using the race to test their relationship, and whether they would have any long term success, and that things are looking towards the long term side. Seriously? You were hardly on the race at all. You raced for two days, much of that spent sleeping in a camp or on a plane. You also bickered constantly, and you think this was a positive? Dream on.

Margie and Luke will be out quickly. Luke cannot talk with anyone, so if there is something he has to do by himself, they will lose.

I don't know why they didn't just roll the cheese down the hill. There didn't seem to be any penalty, so I would have just rolled them. The wooden carriers where old and basically made to break.

The only thing with that is there would be no knowing where your cheese would end up. The cheese that did wind up rolling down the hill seem to end up in various places. I guess in the long run it might be shorter to go chase down the cheese and carry it back but there is the chance that you might not be anywhere close to where you need to be.

Throwing pies in your teammates face? Hilarious.

I love the editing on this show. Luke protests the pie challenge, saying it will take too long, then they cut to his post-leg interview and he is covered in pie. Brilliant.

I got a bad vibe from Steve, as even though he apologized for his behavior in the first leg, Linda seemed to have a big fear of him yelling at her and getting mad, and they way he grabbed her finger to figure out which direction she was pointing, I think that showed signs that he might be abusive.

The flight attendants are so inept but they are still in it. They may turn into a Dan and Andrew clone.

Team School of Rock has become my favorite team. The way they were upset during the parachute roadblock over potentially being eliminated shows just how much they want to be there, and it is clear that Mike wasn't doing this for any kind of fame.

I like Victoria a lot, but I wish her brother would treat her better. She is just as strong a racer, if not stronger than he is, and I hope she calls him out on his behavior if it continues.

                  Tammy.

Victor is the brother, although Victoria might be a good nickname for him. Dude is the most effeminate dude I've seen on the Amazing Race.

You're right. Victoria would be a good nickname for him.

I must have been thinking of Jonathan and Victoria from season 6.

I've been watching this season and it's been pretty cool. Mike and Mel White have been doing pretty well, and I'm just wondering if the bro/sis lawyers will eventually implode.

It's tough early on to really care about everyone (so many teams, tough to get to know them), but I think this'll be a good season.

the thing i dont understand is why they always are in such a hurry running all the time

dont they know from having seen the show that its not about how fast you go, its about making the right decisions

i mean, i still laugh when they are sprinting to start the stage
