    Turbo Tax Software....quick question.

I am about to do my taxes and have looked at some on-line software such as H&R Block Tax Cut , Turbo Tax etc etc etc...

I just bought TurboTAX from best buy at $49.99 thinking, I will pay $49.99 this year, do my taxes myself, and just continue to use this software next year and the year after and the year after etc...

My question for anyone that knows....is it possible to do that with the software I bought today? Or would I need to buy Turbo Tax again next years and for the years to come do the same thing?

No, it is only good for this year's return.

Wow that sucks. Good thing I have not opened it yet. I will return it and just go with a free online software. Thanks for the quick help!

One really great thing about Turbo Tax though is the fact that you save your returns each year and then when you do taxes the next year, it pulls all the information from the previous year. It makes it really quick. I'm already done with taxes, the electronic filings have been accepted and the money should be deposited any day. Well worth the $39.99 (Costco always has sales) in my opinion.

yeah that's why I use it each year. My life is pretty simple and nothing really ever changes, so using Turbo Tax works out good because it is always pretty much the same as the previous year so most of the work is already done for me after it imports last year's stuff.

Should I go with the Basic or the Deluxe? I dont have any complex forms. I have no mortgage.

If you have no mortgage, go Basic. Really though, you should just pick up a 1040EZ form and do it by hand for free if you are really that simple (aka only taking the standard deduction).

We use TurboTax annually, and Costco has always had a coupon for ten bucks off the software in their January coupon mailer.

Yeah, Johnny's right. If you don't have a mortgage or any deductions, you can probably do it by hand in a short amount of time. Turbo Tax is great for people who have a lot of deductions and other stuff like interest income, capital gains and losses, stocks, etc. It's also good if you want to do the e-filing.

How hard is it to do by hand? My taxes will be very basic...just working and school plus rent an apartment...last year I went to H&R block and my bill was like $100+ if I remenber correctly...BTW im awesome with math just never really got into doing taxes myself....is it simple?

Just use turbotax.com to do your taxes, you don't have to buy the software.

Exactly...Plus it e-files everything for you easily and I don't have to do crap. Makes everything infinitely easier for me. I'd personally be paranoid of making a mistake while doing it by hand, this saves me the stress.

The only thing that drives me crazy is the roller coaster of emotion I go on watching the refund meter go from green to red once I put in the W2's. I end up thinking we're going to be getting a return only to get roasted. Just like clockwork I'll get pissed this year when we end up owing money.

Thinking about getting turbo tax this year to do our taxes. The cost of this vs the cost of going to H&R Block seems like a no brainer. Is this pretty user friendly?
