Ellipticals
My wife wants to get an elliptical for our house since she thinks she'll be more likely to use it than going to the Y to use theirs. We're going to start looking at them tonight. Anybody have one that they can recommend?Tags: None -
Re: Ellipticals
myself and the lady looking into this as well. we have 2 gyms 5 mins from our house, but its hit or miss if we can use the ellipiticals bc people are always on them.
this machine is so easy on my right knee, thats why i love it. i can get a good 30-45 min workout in and not worry about my knee hurting after.
some of the ones i seen, dont seem to sturdy compared to the ones at the gym. just not in the buget to get one of those lol.. wonder if i could by one used from them?Twitch

Re: Ellipticals
I know the YMCA by my house constantly gets new equipment (well not constantly but every so often) so I would I would imagine you could buy some of their older stuff

Re: Ellipticals
All I can say is don't go cheap, and make sure you test it out. We grabbed a cheap one that was on sale, and only hopped on it for a minute to test it...
Once we got it home and started using it, I found out that it sucked and I've never used it since.
Put a little money into getting quality one.Comment

Re: Ellipticals
I bought a NordicTrack elliptical 2-3 years ago. I spent approximately $800 on it. I can't recall the model right now, but it was a mid-tier elliptical. I've been very happy with it...no problems to date.
Timmay is right. Don't go cheap and try them out at a store before you purchase. All ellipticals are different in terms of stride length and stability. Usually the cheaper ones aren't very stable and when you get moving, they'll tilt from side to side making it hard to use.Comment

Re: Ellipticals
Ellipticals suck if you want to lose weight.
Doesn't matter the intensity that you put it on. Often times elliptical machines don't even calculate how much calories you have burned correctly.
I would rather invest in a treadmill, those suckers will burn the extra meat off your wife's thighs.

Agree on the calorie counter though...those aren't often correct. I've never paid much attention the them on any machine.Comment

Re: Ellipticals
I've read the exact opposite. Here's just one article:

With an elliptical, you can burn more calories in less time as you're working more muscle groups.Comment
