    iPod question

Got two iPods and two different computers. I have my computer and my fiance has her. We both have an iPod each. I am going to give me nano to my daughter and we are going to add my iTunes library onto my fiance's iPod. When I plug her iPod into my computer and go sync, it says it's going to erase everything off of her iPod. What's the best way to get my music onto her iPod?

        pirate threads rule!

as far as I know, you have to combine your two libraries into one library and then sync your iPod.

that's to the best of me knowledge, though.....

You'd have to copy your music onto your fiance's computer and have her sync up that way. iPods cannot be syncing with multiple computers at once, Apple doesn't want people illegally sharing music like that.

You could copy the file onto the external HDD and copy it to her computer, yeah...however you do it, that music has to be on her computer for it to sync.

So can I make a copy of my iTunes music file and put that on the external hdd? I don't want to remove it off my computer, because then I won't be able to sync my iPhone. I just want to move my music to my fiances computer so I can add my itunes library to her iPod?

                    If that makes sense.

if it's purchased from iTunes, you'll have to enable her as one of your 5 iTunes accesses for that account. But copy, by its very nature, won't screw you up. iTunes lets you have up to 5 computers have access to your copy protected songs.

                        Re: iPod question

yeah, the method you're thinking of works like a charm.

What my wife and I do is that we have on our Mac mini a universal iTunes Music folder. Then, in each of our libraries on each of our accounts, we have the songs we want out of that folder. If either of us buy/add to our libraries, it gets added to the "master" folder, but we each have our individual libraries (and share many songs). Thus, each of our iPods are synced separately and works I think like you want.

Just make sure you authorize any songs you bought on her computer...like mgoblue said, you get up to 5 authorizations.

                          Re: iPod question

What's weird is, we transfered my fiance's music from her old laptop to her new one via an external hdd, I went to play them last night and it kept saying it couldn't locate the file.

All I did was move the itunes music folder into the external hdd and then moved it onto the new computer.

(most of my songs are not bought on iTunes)
if someone knows of a step by step or know what I did wrong, let me know.

go into your iTunes preferences and under Advanced, tell it where your new iTunes library folder is. I think that may start to solve your problems...I hope.
