Re: Will you keep paying $60 for games?

I'm stopping. 60 bucks a game is really rediculous when I think about it. Especially since I'm reaching that time in my life when I start thinking about the future and stuff like that. Half.com for the win. I buy NCAA football new now and that will be in

Nope $40 or less. Im a advocate for making game $20 or less. I think you sell more copies that way and gamers will buy more games.
Kenny: Ok Vic, I'm ready for some girl on girl action.
Vic: No Kenny, that's girl versus girl.
      Kenny: What's the difference?
Vic: Well, in one, one girl wins. In the other....
      Kenny: Everyone wins?!?!

Re: Will you keep paying $60 for games?

I probably will, but the amount of games I buy have lessened dramatically. I used to be one of those crazy people that bought Madden and NCAA Football every year, first day, no matter what. But EA has weaned me off their games the past few years. Now I wait for reviews and if think it's worth it, I'll rent it first to try. 2K seems to be heading down that path but for now, I'll keep buying the NBA series first day for 60 bucks, unless I find a deal where I can get it for less.

Right now the next Star ocean, Final Fantasy and Mass Effect look to be day one purchases as well, simply from my anticipation of them, but they are the only games on my purchasing radar at the moment. Two of them won't be released for a long while now.

So basically, I've gone from buying 3 to 6 games a year to 1-3 at full price. I have been thinking about just going the Gamefly route. I started a Netflix trial and I LOVE it. If I do the Gamefly thing, then the 2K NBA series will likely be the sole game I buy in a given year (provided they keep moving forward), unless of course EA does something crazy and makes a good football game.

I only pay $60 if I have a gift card to make up some of the cost. Otherwise I get them from ebay for at least $10 off.

I don't see how $60 is ridiculous. We used to pay $50 for Nintendo games back in the day.

Re: Will you keep paying $60 for games?

It all depends on the "need to have it" mentality for me. With so many titles coming, you can wait and play, making the game a good amount less than its original price. I just bought Force Unleashed for my son at Christmas for $40.00.

Usually I go with a sports game right off the bat, and there are a few must have titles that are non-sports, but most of the time it can wait.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I usually try to wait until a game goes on sale for $40 to buy it. But there's alot of games that I want on release day that I end up shelling $60 for

Hell, Odyssey and Atari 2600 games were $30 back in 1979. Given a 3% rate of inflation, that game would cost $73. I bought a Sega World Series Baseball game for $60 in 1994. Today's cost $93.47.

But thats not the point, the point is if you were frugal, that $60 game could feed one person for possibly 1 month, at minimum a few weeks eating realtively decent. Talking sandwiches, cereal, milk and some fruit and vegetables. If the chips get down and you find yourself out of work, I think you'll be kicking yourslef looking at that dusty game you played 3 times.

I only buy 1 or 2 games a year. 2008, I bought NCAA Football for $60, and then I got Conan for $9.99 and Brothers in Arms for $19.99.

This year I'll buy Fight Night Round 4 for $60 and most likely break down and buy NCAA football. I would definitely buy Empire Total War for the PC, but I need a new rig to play it, and can't justify $800+ to do so.

$60 for a game you'll play hundreds of hours is a bargain like I have with NCAA football and College Hoops and I don't mind spending it, but nothing is worse than buying a game and only playing it a few times. What's even worse is looking up at a collection of games you played a few hours total and realize you are staring at $500 of wasted opportunity.

9 games for PS3 so far (granted, 3 are PSN games but still), and I didn't pay $60 for a single one.

I am using gamefly now and only buying games I know I'll play a while...I'll still purchase games though, I figure it's cheaper to buy a game than it would be to go out and buy drinks all night, I get a lot more hours out of it too...

I abuse the Toys R Us buy 2 get 1 free sale.

On the 360 I've gotten 9 games through that and paid $60 for 6 games (half of that though was through gift cards).

I will because I only buy five or six games a year.

I'm in the same boat. Sports Titles minus baseball are my only $60 purchases and I have no problem in dropping $60. In the summer before NCAA hits I will catch up on other games in the bargain bin.

Re: Will you keep paying $60 for games?

I tend to buy a lot of games and while I don't think $60 is outrageous I have definitely become more frugal because of the price point. Resident Evil 5 is a good example; it's a game I want but I don't really need - I copped Dead Space for $29.99 over the holidays and still haven't played much through it. Street Fighter IV on the other hand I'll probably get day one since I don't have a fighting game. But again, at $60 not necessarily sure I need to have the game. But it's doubtful the price will be coming down anytime soon. That'll be my reasoning for Killzone 2; I still have great 360 shooters to play through but there's little chance prices will be coming down on KZ2 anytime soon. Games like NBA2K are no-brainer day one purchases for me.

One thing I do notice is a lot more people looking at used games than new when I go into game stores. The four PS3 games I have I brought used and saved over $100. And managed to catch some great deals on really good games like Conan and Ninja Gaiden II ($9.99 each). I do think people would be open to purchasing more games if they were more reasonably priced
