Re: Will you keep paying $60 for games?

Yes I will, the economy is not affecting me.
I will make about 10% more then I made last year.
Figure that in with the huge promotion my wife just got and I dont see why I will need to spend less money.
    I buy:
    Madden
    NCAA Football
    NBA 2K
    MLB 2k
    Every year for $60 each.

Let me know how your statement about the economy not effecting you is working out in about a year. Its one thing to say you have the disposable income at the time to buy what games you want, but its crazy talk thinking that whatever you and your wife do is entirely recession proof. I can see it now you're lighting your cigar with a $20 bill you just lit on fire.

Last game I bought at $60 was GTA4. I used to be one of the guys who had to have the game the day it was released but my gaming time has gone down greatly the last few years.

I'll definitely buy another $60 game if it's GTA4-like or something that I'm highly anticipating. But for anything else I'll wait and get it used/discounted.

I rarely pay $60 for new release games. Usually I buy from Gamefly after I have rented a title. Or I find the best deal online which is around $50 with shipping.

Yes I will pay $60 for any game I buy. Why, because I make sure it's a game that will be worth it. I don't rush to finish games either. Why should I, if I own it?

Why dont you explain to me how the economy is going to affect me, mister smarty pants??!!!
I am not saying I am super rich, I am just saying I am not hurnting in the least bit.
Both me and my wife are near 40 and both have good paying jobs that we have worked for our entire lives. I can tell you for a fact the economy is not going to affect the line of work that me or my wife are in. I just dont buy the whole every one is going to loose their jobs and be broke line that everyone is talking about.
Why do you feel the need to question my financial situation when you dont know me at all. Maybe I should fire my financial advisor and hire you???

If your financial advisor is saying the economy isn't going to affect you, you probably should hire a different counsel. You might want to check your portfolio.

But I don't care, those who have the means to spend, need to spend to keep the economy going. Its a scary statement to think the economy could not possibly have an effect on any individual, but you are doing well for yourself so carry on.

Re: Will you keep paying $60 for games?

I definitely don't spend as much for games anymore, even though I have more disposable income.

When games were $40 and $50, I was buying maybe 2-3 a month. Now, I pick the games I purchase for full price wisely.

There are always the games you'll purchase yearly (and that's why sports games come out every year) but the games I would take a chance on... not as much anymore.

Part of the reason is there are so many more platforms to choose from. Back in the day, it was only Playstation to buy games for, really... Now, good grief, there is the PS3 (and PSN), 360 (and XBLA), PSP, Wii, DS, iPhone, PC.... I'm sure I'm leaving others out... but it seems like there's always something to spend money on and I'd definitely live a less "comfortable" life style to try and keep up. Not worth the tradeoff IMO.

I can see it now you're lighting your cigar with a $20 bill you just lit on fire.
                    There are recession proof jobs.

I could shoot holes in that all day. List a few a I'll show you how a down economy can have adverse effects. There are fairly recession proof industries but even those need to trim the fat when there is a down turn.

But I don't care, those who have the means to spend, need to spend to keep the economy going. Its a scary statement to think the economy could not possibly have an effect on any individual, but you are doing well for yourself so carry on.
My portfolio is great! I check it often.
And again the down economy or recession is not affecting me in the least bit.

I bet there will be less people buying 2 baseball games or 2 football games, etc.

Thats cool, no problem man. Seriously I'm glad for you if you have found a way to prosper in the economy. Its bad up here in Michigan. My job is relatively safe for the time being, my wife is good too although she's in the travel industry and thats always downsizing in tough times.

And I didn't want to preach either, its just my point is....If you are going to buy a game for $60, make sure that it is one that you'll get plenty of use out of. If not, put it away, that $60 may be more important down the road than you think. Also, the future value of money...That $60 or multiple of that $60 will be worth alot come retirement time. I would hope that everyone reconsiders that impulse buy of that $60 game that you only play twice. And if they cut out that impulse buy, I think there will be a dramatic decrease in games purchased. Afterall, how much time do we really have to game?
