    Re: Inglorious Bastards

Actually I don't think Pitt would get an oscar, Chris Waltz (Jew Hunter) should definitely get one. I just saw it again, and wow did he have an amazing performance.

Also, about the "oui" subtitles thing. I noticed it a lot the first time, buti t really stuck out the second. I tried to find patterns but couldn't. Some times the subtitles would say "Yes" when they said oui IRL, and sometimes the subtitle would say "oui." Very strange, same thing for merci.

I saw the movie yesterday and really enjoyed it. I thought it got a little slow in the middle but overall it was very good and my favorite Tarantino film in years. As others have said Waltz put in a tremendous performance, he really stood out to me. I've always been a fan of Pitt's work for the most part and he was solid as well. I hadn't really seen much about the movie except what I saw in previews so I was a bit surprised by the plot but still thought it was really good. Definitely worth the money to see it in theatres.

I'm definitely going to see this soon...I'm a huge Pitt fan and love Tarantino's work, so not seeing this already is wearing on me.

            Re: Inglorious Bastards

Loved the film. I went at 10:00 PM last Friday and despite there being tons of high-schoolers there with dates, no one walked out (thankfully). I thought the subtitle-reading would turn people off but no one seemed to care. I'm a foreign film fan so I don't have a problem with it - there's just some kind of subtitle-backlash amongst uneducated moviegoers these days. Needless to say, it was an awesome experience.

It seems like a modern day version of "Walker" (Alex Cox's 1987 revisionist-history tale of conquest in Nicaragua). Tarantino threw the history book out the window and presented what I can only call a wild, stylized thrill ride through World War II that didn't let up. Even the long dialogue-filled sequences were full of suspense, thanks in part to the great acting and tense dialogue. Tarantino relays on-screen tension better than any living director and his work in Basterds shows it.

            I admit,
            Spoiler

Waltz as Hans Landa, like everyone seems to be saying, stole the film. His performance should make him one of the most memorable (if not THE most memorable) Quentin Tarantino villains.

Along with UP, Basterds is the best film I've seen all year. No, it wasn't the best film imaginable, but damn, it was fun. Well worth the 4-5 years' wait since it was announced on IMDB. Thanks, QT, for a really fun two and a half hours at the cinema.

                Loved it.

Taratino is a great dialogue writer and despite this film being what seems like 65% dialogue and 35% action, it doesn't drag. I thought the scene with Michael Myers was a bit slow, but everything else was extremely well-written.

Acting was strong, direction was strong. I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of Taratino's editing style (ie: Random narrator, huge text popping on screen), but it did help make the movie fun.

See, this is a film that had lots of action and gore in it and it never seemed pointless. It was a well-thought out film with a strong plot and deep characters.

                Fantastic film.

Chris Waltz performance absolutely stole the show, should definitely win him a Oscar. Hopefully we will see more of him in American Cinema because this dude can act. Overall Not Tarantino's best but its pretty damn close. Just a blast to watch, one of the funnest movies I have ever seen.

absolutely awesome! i loved it! Pitt was great but Waltz stole the show...also thought that Fassbender's Brit was good (we english love a bit of old style English attitude!) and the tension build up followed by a breakdown had me up and down throughout the whole film!

This film is really the culmination of all of Tarantino's best works. Strange that QT did not make an appearance, but as for all of the performances, simply amazing.

Truly a masterpiece. Worth seeing twice, and hopefully the timing of the movie release won't hold it from getting award consideration.

Also, a lot of the subtitles using the same words as spoken is likely because that's how it was written in the script.

Subtitles will usually just go word-for-word what was written in English, and Taratino uses the words "merci" and "oui" in the script. There are other words, such as Fehrer, Monsieur, Heer, and Mademoiselle that are not English but written in their proper language during the subtitles.
