Re: In what decade would you liked to have spent your teens?

I was a teen in the mid to late 90's. I went with the 80s because I am fascinated with their music, movies, and the professional sports leagues.
    My Teams:
    NFL - Washington Redskins
    MLB - Detroit Tigers
    NBA - Detroit Pistons
    NHL - Washington Capitals
    NCAA - Virginia Cavaliers
    NCAA - Arkansas Razorbacks
    NCAA - Michigan St Spartans

Waited until several guys responded. I think the 50's like any era certainly had it's problems, but as a teenager it always seemed the "coolest" of any decade to be in.

I experienced my teenage years through the late 80's/early 90's.

I would have like to experienced the 70's since it seemed like all the good music was during that period. Growing up on hip hop music most of the beats from hip hop music during my teenage years came from songs from the 70's. And listening to my dad play those same songs on vinyl records I always had an admiration for 70's music.

                Man this is tough.

So roughly 14-20 years old hmm I'd say the 60s for the great social changes, political upheaval and the looser/freer mode of thinking when it came to things like drugs, sex and other such. It was truly the era of liberalism.

The added benefit of all this would be that i'd be a young adult throughout the '70s which had some great music and the free love movement of the '60s led to a much more liberalized cultural environment. It'd be very easy to gain friends (especially of the opposite sex)

Re: In what decade would you liked to have spent your teens?

I wouldn't trade growing up in the 90s in my teens. I was the perfect age to get in on the metal revolution, escape racism and have enough to time get a job before this recession. The 80s in NY were a tough time to be a black/spanish teen. Too much Crack. Any time before that, and it was not a good time in America to be brown. Growing up in NY as a teen in the 90s, I'm pretty spoiled as far as escaping racism.

Most of all, I got to enjoy the video game generation from beginning to end! What's better than that? Young enough to know how to use the internet, but old enough to appreciate when we didn't have it. Old enough to have played NES games when they came out, but young enough to be eagerly awaiting Street Fighter IV.

I got no complaints, man. I can't front. I think I wound up with a pretty good hand.

The Govt. wasn't "controlling" the lifestyle, just the opposite. In the 50's a guy could have a regular job, his wife could stay home and raise the kids and they could even have a house. It was the federal government's massive growth and intrusion and heretofore unheard of oppressive tax burden that began the decline and destruction of the nuclear family and 2 parent homes. It was a more innocent, polite society, every decade had it's problems but to say it was government propaganda is totally off the mark.

People were happy that we had come out victorious in the great war and believed in the American Dream. So many heroic young men grateful to be alive and eager to settle down and have families, they saw the horrors of war, saw friends died and truly appreciated being alive. They didn't have the perpetually offended, victim mentality, woe is me era that we have in today's soft society who's idea of suffering is not having a plasma tv in every room.

The 80's were great, a renaissance of the celebration of capitalism and the American Dream, we had gotten through a horrid economic time of inflation, 23% interest rates, etc. People believed again, entrepreneurship soared, EVERY class and race of people improved their positions in life over that decade. People worked hard and played hard and were optimistic, the music reflected that, the 80's also had the distinction of the greatest percent of charitable contributions of any decade before or since. Calling it the "decade of greed" was a political statement that had nothing to do with reality, success is not greed, it was a great, great decade.

I picked the one I grew up in, the 80's. Wouldn't want to be a teen in todays time .........If I had to pick another it would be the 60's.
