At least that's how I see this poll...
That's exactly correct. Everyone may not understand it, but there actually might be some people beyond the scope of OS that would have picked a certain era because they would have wanted to fight in a particular war. But, those other aspects you mentioned are spot on.

I was in the 80's too as a teen, and I'm not sure I would want another decade. I mean, we had Max Headroom.

Out of those choices I went with the 80s. At least at that time you had video games/arcades start to become part of popular culture. Then of course the underground music scene was pretty kickass during the 80s, not to mention mainstream rock/metal start to change course towards the end of the decade.

The 50s always seem like a fun time to me when I watch movies set in the 50s, but I don't think I would be able to handle the constant paranoia that the Soviets had their hand hovering over a button which would annihilate the USA instantly or that the Reds were hiding in the bushes waiting to eat the children. Seems too heavy to me to label the 50s as "simple times" not to mention you had to watch your back from your neighbors or else they might report you as Communist sympathizers and be blacklisted. No, thank you.

That's why I picked the 50's (let's say I lived in the US). I know there were bad things about this decade (people were called communists for nothing, women didn't have many rights, conservative times etc.) but I picked it just like in the movie Back to the Future. In the movie they didn't really care about what was going on on the news etc. (except for the racism - when the African-American guy thought he could actually become the mayor one day, and other people laughed at him), it was all about the way they dressed, their haircuts, the music, the dances, the cars, the atmosphere. That movie (and also Happy Days) made me a fan of the 1950's forever!

As much as everyone loves the civil rights movement and the changes it brought about in the 60s-70s. I invite everyone to look into incarceration, poverty, illegitimate births, and single female head of household rates during the 50s and afterwards.
the word 'skyrocketed' comes to mind.

like to go back to when women didn't have any rights. That would be sweet.

You can find wrong things in every decade. 30 years from now you'll be amazed at the bad things that were common in the early 2000's. If I took it seriously and examined when the world was perfect I guess I would never want to be born. There was no time in hitsory when the human race functuined like it should.
