Re: The Steroid Scandal or the BCS?

Baseball is by far my favorite of the major sports, but I went with the BCS. I have never seen a system that causes so much controversy and doesn't decide a true national champion. The BCS actually makes me physically ill.

On the other hand, steroids were bound to happen in baseball. Selig turned the other way when he knew they were in the game. He was desperate, and McGwire and Sosa were putting butts in the seats. Its a sad story, but it doesn't affect me as much as the horrific BCS system.

      Basically my same thought.

And, might I add, I HATE how the media deals with this steroid issue. All we hear is "so-and-so took steroids, then hit 50+ home runs... but, ya, steroids are bad."

WHY?? WHY ARE THEY BAD??? I know why they're bad. I've done the research on alleged negative side effects, and I've educated myself.

But that 17 year old kid who is trying to make a baseball career just hears "[Insert baseball player here] takes steroids and performance goes up." And he thinks, "hell, his health is fine... why don't I give myself the same advantage?"

There's a great chance that he doesn't do the research on it to see the negative side effects. All he sees is what the media says... which is simply that some guy took steroids and became a more productive baseball player.

I think the media owes it to the youth in times like these--when a "steroid scandal" becomes a major story in the media--to educate everyone about the possible negative side effects, not just show how the player's numbers went up or how he extended his career.

The BCS, it's pretty much preventing college football from being my second favorite sport behind college hoops. It's dropped it all the way from 2nd to 5th on my personal interest list. Pretty pathetic. It's a good year if I watch five college football games a year from start to finish this day and age.

Steroids made baseball more entertaining. I don't care about the purity of the game, baseball has never been a pure game and it's had its fair share of cheaters one way or another over the last century.

This is pretty much how I feel, but what sucks is that the "cheaters" from the Ty Cobb days to the early 90s get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to HOF credibility, but not the players of today, even when baseball was indirectly co-signing the players taking the steroids by not coming down hard when they were just racking up $$$ in the late 90s.

If baseball was acting like it was cool with the players juicing up, why wouldn't the players be cool with it?

I wonder how people feel about this now that alot more info has come out with regards to steroids and there are alot more names that are out there now.

Re: The Steroid Scandal or the BCS?

Steroids are far worse. Yeah that's right. Cheating (breaking the rules) is far worse than the a system that determines a champion.

I'm in no way saying the BCS is without flaws, but cheating is cheating. To top it off, the example steroid-users are setting are awful for the young athlete.

How in the hell is the BCS leading this poll?!

If every team and the majority of players are "cheating", it really isn't "cheating." Steroids managed to make baseball better.

I also don't think steroid users really "set a bad example" for kids.

First off, hardly anyone actually wants to play baseball at a level high enough for steroids to be used. Second, any teenager using steroids to be like Barry Bonds deserves to have the troubles associated.

Kids don't take steroids to be like an MLB player. Kids take steroids because they won't be tested for them and it will make them better players.

I don't really give a **** about baseball, they can all take steroids for all I care. So I'll go with the BCS.

                          The BCS for me.

The steroids thing is overblown and the only role models kids should have are their parents.

While I absolutely hate the social ramifications of the steroid scandal, the BCS has to take the cake.

Because of it I don't even really follow college football.

Even through all of this steroid crap there's still a great game to be enjoyed, and steroids doesn't make me dislike the game - just the players who've chosen to cheat.

BCS.... because it takes the game out of the people playing it's hands. I look at it like boxing, you never want to rely on a judges scorecard.

Not a fan of steroids, but clearly it's not the only "unhealthy" thing athletes are prone to do to gain a competitve advantage. It just happens to be the one the media latched on to.
