How good was the stab? lol.

A few questions...How long a period of time are we talking here? Did this all happen fast? Or was it a drawn out thing? Why werent tranquilizer darts used? Why didnt the owners have a non-lethal way of controlling their pet? Did the police attempt any non-lethal apprehension methods? If the monkey was breaking into a car with people in it...(i.e. there were people nearby) why were multiple shots fired at a fast moving target? Why didnt anyone attempt to grab the monkey or beat it with a billy club? The cops were scared of Lyme disease? PLEASE! My friend had/has Lyme disease and people touch him...sometimes.. A cop wont touch a chimp because it might have lyme disease but I bet that same cop wouldnt think twice about bashing in the skull of a crackhead with AIDS...
The whole story just seems off.

LOL, apparently "stab" is an understatement, it was multiple. Scary crap.

Their normal weight is around 150 lbs, (they're muscly bastards) so this guy was probably fat from being in a house in god damned Connecticut for most of his life. Sad story... wild animals should not be kept in people's houses... especially ones that share ~95% of our DNA and are extremely intelligent/emotional. I feel bad for parrots and whatnot being kept in cages, much less a 200 lb. chimp. People suck, basically.

And I'm not surprised that the chimp was able to take a bullet , some stab wounds, and still get back into the house. They're one of the toughest meanest animals on the planet when they want to be (like short muscle-bound humans with hands and feet that can crush your skull and sharp, strong fingernails that easily tear human skin off).

I mean, as sad as it is, I agree with the police officer's decisin. You have to remember that these things hands are lethal objects. It would be the equivalent of a crazed person attacking a woman with a knife to the point that she was near death (the woman is stil in critical condition as we speak btw), and then run outside and charge an officers vehicle and break off its mirror.

I think they were justified in the shooting of the monkey if they had no other means of controlling it (I doubt they had any nets or tranquilizer guns available). Ideally you would wait for the zoo crew to come handle this, but unfortunately, a person's life was in the balance, and so the cops came.

Exactly. The little guy should have been living in an environment where he could be a monkey instead of a house pet.

The tone of the article makes it seem like the whole thng happened pretty fast. Basically, the woman came over, the monkey freaked out and almost killed her. Remember, the owner called 911 before she stabbed the thing, so the cops were probably there within a few minutes. They see this crazy monkey running around outside, for whatever reason they aggravate it and it runs over and goes crazy on their car. Boom, boom, boom, boom, monkey stumbles like a drunken E.T. back into its home and dies. I would imagine the right people would have been called eventully, but I get the feeling this all happened rather quickly.

This story just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Cnn just reported he had tea and a xanax before his attack. Boy was parachuting like John Belushi!

I assume you're joking around or you are one hell of an animal activist. I'm more astonished that people here thought you're being serious and replying in kind. Good job. That friend with the Lyme disease who gets touched "sometimes" was a nice hint that you're joking around.

Just on the tiny chance that you're not. Would you try and apprehend a chimp that would literally try to bite off your family jewels. I don't know any cop that's getting paid enough to risk that. Lyme disease wasn't the fear, it was losing your nose or getting castrated. Not even TJ Hooker would try and grab him and beat him with a billy club. Would he then cuff him and send him to an anger management class for primates.

The chimp is running amok and the police should take the time to go to an animal clinic and grab some tranqualizers while the chimp is going Cujo on the cars on the street.

Good lord, this is one of the first stories I've read where every aspect is completely bizarre form top to bottom. Here are some more tidbits-

"The chimp, who was known to walk around town, sometimes without a leash, also liked to surf on the Internet and was able to change the TV channel with a remote, according to a Stamford Advocate article. The paper also reported that Travis watered plants, was able to feed hay to his owner's horses, ate at a table with the rest of the family and sometimes drank wine from a stemmed glass."

                          WTF!

                          And now after he died-

"Travis' body was removed from the home and taken to two locations: His head was taken to the state lab for a rabies test and the body was taken to the University of Connecticut for an animal autopsy. Conklin said this is standard procedure."

                          WTF!<!--startclickprintexclude-->

This is a sad, depressing and scary story. I feel bad for all involved. The chimp had to be taken out, the lady's friend is deformed for life (if she survives) and the owner just had the most traumatic experience of her life, had to watch her pet maul and eat her friend, had to stab her own pet, and then watch it get shot and killed.

Wow. I can't even imagine what she is going through . . .
