ESPN HD why is the broadcast so static filled?

Compared to cbs and others it seems like (At least on my Comcast Digital) some static in the background, anybody else have that issue?

I've noticed this as well, I think it's because most Espn game are broadcast in HD but not filmed in HD, where as when CBS and Fox have Nfl games for example, there filmed and broadcast in HD.

If you are watching ESPN and the video/game they are showing is not filmed in HD, you will see the ESPN HD bars on the side of the screen. They aren't upconverting the resolution to make look like HD, they are leaving it in its natural resolution and 4:3.

I don't have any issues on DTV, but it could be because of Comcast. If you don't live in a major city, Comcast might not have the bandwidth needed to show all the HD channels so they might be compressing the signals more.

I couldn't even watch the Cavs/Celtics game last night in HD, it froze every time I turned it on. ESPN and ESPN2 were the only two HD channels that this was happening on.

ESPN HD never looks good compared to other sports channels in HD.

I second that. I have Direct TV and for some reason ESPN never looks clear in HD. CBS and NBC look pretty good in HD for sporting events.

ESPN broadcasts in 720p while most other networks do in 1080i. not sure if that helps but wanted to let you know about it.

You're right. Found a link with listings of all HD channels.
