Samsung E250 question

My wife got herself a Samsung E250 cellphone. she likes it a lot, but one questions: when the phone is "off" (not in use and the light is off) - you can't see the clock. We're used to older cellphones where when the phone isn't used you can still see the clock - even if the light is off. Is there a way to get the clock displayed when the phone is "off"? We searched all over the manual and couldn't find it.
