    Re: dSLR Camera suggestions

a great photographer told me when I first started....

the more you shoot the better you get, the better you get the less you have to shoot

settings play a part in taking a great photos yes, as does good glass....but light and composition are what MAKE the shot GREAT

I use Canon gear, but really you can't go wrong with either one...tough to beat L series glass tho

Got a mega super deal on a D80 w/ the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens on Ebay. The dude lives near me, so I'm gonna scoop it up tomorrow. Can't wait to mess around w/ it. Thanks guys.

Have fun and pick up a huge *** memory card. I got a monster deal on one on Black Friday, it holds nearly 1K RAW pictures which are basically the highest of the highest in terms of quality. I wish I started shooting in RAW earlier, the difference can be night and day.

Those were basic untouched JPEGs, I only wish I shot in RAW at that game.

Man, those images are so crisp. Wow. Played around w/ mine a little today, just trying to get used to the billion menus on the thing.

I'm noticing sometimes, I take a pic of one thing, it's perfect, the next one, same picture, same everything, but it's blurry, not even close to as sharp as the first one. I wasn't moving or anything, just odd.

Played w/ a few of the pre configured settings, for day, night, sport, portrait, they all look a bit different, guess I just need to make sure I'm using the right one at the given time.

To be fair, it's easy to take a picture of something coming right at you. I had front row seats in the endzone, which at Rutgers was about 5 yards behind the field goal posts. You were literally on top of the field.

Depends what you use it for, but really whether you shoot Large Fine JPEG or RAW it doesn't really matter. Biggest difference is RAW will allow you more control in post-processing, and RAW will fill up a hard drive MUCH faster. It won't make a bit of difference when it comes to print...

I always thought when using RAW, it was easier to keep the quality if you blow the image up. I can tell a difference between a JPEG and a RAW image when I blow them up to 8X10s.

NikonD40. I have a few connections where I get them printed, but if I'm in a rush I just hit up one of those Kodak Printing Booths, they actually produce some what decent quality pictures.

Ok so I just looked up the price of that camera. No way can I EVER see myself paying that much for a camera. Got to be very passionate about taking pictures to drop that kind of dough on a camera.

That's the dilemma I'm in. First I was looking at the Canon 7D(w/ lense) and saw a $1800 price tag. That tab was closed.

I don't want to break the bank but I want to start getting into taking some serious shots (mainly of family, NYC in general). My budget is about $1000 but I really do not want to pay that much, and I definitely don't want to go over that.

Damn all you high rollers! Yes, I'm hating.

I don't take enough pictures to justify that kind of money on a camera. I see if I was blowing them up into posters or submitting them in a newspaper or magazine or CNN. But for personal use........nope, I won't get my money worth out of it.

Now I can see me spending $1800 on a 55 inch tv because it would get used everyday.....

But on a camera ?????? My wife would slap me silly, no lie LOL.
