    Re: HDTV help?

    Re: HDTV help?

Some guy at best buy who sounded like he knew his stuff was telling me a year back that comparing contrast ratios from different manufacturers doesn't make sense because they all use different methods and different numbers to come up with their figures.

So a 10,000:1 ratio from sony could equal out to 1,000:1 ratio from Panasonic. But, a 10,000:1 ratio from one sony tv is better than 1,000:1 ratio from another sony tv. With all the eggheads over here, I'm just trying to find out if that's true or if they all use a standard testing method. Thanks.

I would go through best buy in a minute. Dealing with manufacturers directly is hit or miss. Mainly a headache. If I were you get someone a best buy to explain in full detail how their warranty works and then talk to someone at Sony.

Yes,contrast ratio is pretty useless in comparing sets.

yep its true.. as I said earlier in the thread, they have no contrast standard to measure by.

            Re: HDTV help?

Well I bought it today. I went with the newer one. I got a wall mount that swirls and goes up and down. My dad is going to hook it to the wall on Wednesday and I get it delivered here on Tuesday. It is going to be sweet. It has 4 HDMI so I will have my P23 and 360 hooked up. I am pumped. The Show is going to be sick on this badboy. Plus HD Hockey and Baseball is going to a blast! Thanks for all your help 23.

Not that I can recomend anything from Sony anymore anyway but I was going to say get one with a better response time,it's not listed on the site but from my own previous research before I gave up on those crooks every Bravia had an 8ms response time.

The protection plan doesn't matter. In my experience everything with Sonys name on it breaks soon as an extended warranty would be up.

Even with the 120hz they have 8ms? I can't find that. Also, I had never had a problem with Sony before. So maybe I got lucky.

What's the real difference between 120 and 60 hertz? Is it that noticeable? I hear mixed opinions.

They say it is a big difference. Who knows. At bestbuy I could tell the difference.

More than likely the response time is 5ms or 4ms

I read it is was 5. But who knows. I am pumped. I get it on Tuesday and putting it up on Wednesday. I am never leaving home. It will be cool to have the PS3 and 360 hooked up at the same time.

yeah it is freaking sweet! Still don't understand the motion flow. They have a high, low and off setting. Also, what is game mode mean?
