    Thrilla in Manilla HBO Doc.

Great doc. offered up some new info especially how Joe Fraisier was giving money to Ali while he was exiled and broke and helped him get his boxing license, and then Ali lynched him in front of the world. Now I understand why Joe is still bitter til this day, its like your brother just stole your wife. Damn Ali was ruthless and a puppet for the NOI/FOI, even his the viet kong didn't call me the N word was a feed line.

    Its a must see.

I apologize, in my haste to post last night, I should have prefaced it by saying this doc. is told from Fraizier perspective, but uses file footage from that time period to help illustrate the narrative.

I saw it, I loved it. The stuff about Ali being fed lines by NOI people and such was very interesting. I can understand why Frazier is bitter but for him to say Ali is paying for his past now being in the condition he's in, that's just cold. I knew a little about Frazier helping Ali when he was banned but not to the extent he did. Overall it's a great watch and a very interesting look into the greatest boxing rivalrey of all time.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Excellent documentary. It was great to be able to look back at such a landmark rivalry/time in history. F@$@ Ali.

This should probably be in the Boxing forum.

Ali clearly wasnt being hateful or personal with what he said about Joe

he did it to entertain and to promote the fight (Frazier sure wasnt going to entertain anyone outside of the ring)

He called him an Uncle Tom...that's pretty personal IMO.

Has nothing to do with hyping a fight or entertaining.

              Ali acted like a punk.

I can tell after watching that documentary that every Rocky Fight is based off Ali/Frazier 3

No doubt. Ali never manned up and apologized face-to-face for any of that. I didn't find any of this antics particularly entertaining. Joe is probably holding on to the grudge longer than he needs to, but I really can't blame him.

It always goes back to videogames though...

I was talking about this documentary with a buddy the other night and we fired up Fight Night Round 3. I've "blacklisted" Ali, so I went with Frazier and he took Muhammad.

                  Fight #1 - I beat his *** with Frazier.

Fight #2 - This was a crazy back and forth fight with multiple knockdowns from each fighter. Eventually Ali gets the upperhand and wins.

Fight #3 - We had to do the Thrilla in Manilla to settle the score lol. However, history didn't repeat itself because I destroyed Ali in the worst beating of the night.

Fight #4 - Ali felt like he got robbed so we fought again. Frazier roughed him up to get another win.

With all that being said, I'm ready for Fight Night Round 4. Sorry, I go off on a tangent sometimes lol...

I understand that, but there are some things that should never be said.

What if a white fighter was fighting a black fighter and used racial slurs to drum up interest? Would that be alright as long as it's for the sake of entertainment and to sell tickets?

That's basically what Ali did. Calling him an Uncle Tom was way below the belt. Especially since it couldn't have been further from the truth.

I read Frazier's book and apparently during the break after the 14th round, Ali was overheard saying "I'm not going back out there. That man is crazy!".
But then Frazier's corner threw in the towel. Most people didn't know that Frazier was basically blind in his left eye by this time in his career.
It's insane to think he nearly went the distance with 'the greatest' without having full capacity to see Ali's right-hand the whole night.

In my mind Frazier won both of the first two fights, and I think if he wasn't half-blind he would have won the 3rd as well.
