    External Blu-Ray Player for Laptop

Has anyone used one of these before? I'm looking to make the plunge into Blu-Ray, but I don't have HDMI outputs on my TV, and I don't feel like buying a new video game system (PS3) or buying a standalone player for 200+.

I saw this for 99$ on Amazon

Seems like a good deal to me, but I still wouldn't buy it. The two best things about blu-ray are the great picture quality on a huge tv and the amazing audio support. You'd be missing out on both of those and on a small computer screen I just don't think the bump in picture quality would be enough for me to warrant getting a blu-ray player. But with it being just a hundred dollars it's not much if you really want to get a blu-ray player.

Yeah, doesn't make sense to make the plunge when you don't have a HDTV that'll take advantage of it...

Better off saving the money towards a HDTV. By black friday there will probably be at least 1 or 2 $130-150 blu ray stand alone players. Some are speculating under $100.

Anything smaller than 32 inches is not really worth it.

I have an HDTV but I don't have HDMI outlets, I just got component outlets.

            .

Oh ok. Without HDMI you can't get the lossless hidef audio (which makes a big difference). Pretty sure that blu ray drive doesn't support it anyway. Shouldn't really see a drop in video quality over component instead of HDMI.

For $100 I'd say go for it if you're okay with just the upgrade in video quality.
