    New Disc technology by GE

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/27/te...ng/27disk.html

GE announced a breakthrough in disc storage technology today. The tech as the ability to store 500 gigabytes on one disc that is readable by current dvd and blu-ray players. This of the possiblities for the future of gaming if dev's had this kind of storage capacity.

Meh, dont let GE's presentations wow you. They throw lots of money into that kind of stuff just for show off.

The news is on our companies front page (GE) but noone here is even talking about it lol

I don't think that's right. From the linked article I understood that "microholographic players could play CD's, DVD's, and Blu-Ray discs", not that these new discs are readable by current DVD and Blu-Ray players. Big, big, big difference IMO. These new machines are backwards compatible, just like the current ones are, but it's not like we'll suddenly have 500 GB discs for the 360 to use.

There is a company that has already developed a 500 GB disc for blu ray.

Not for mass market, yet, but it's been done.

I believe it was 400 GB, but I think that will suffice for now.
