    Hard Drive Enclosure

I'm looking for some help on finding a hard drive enclosure for a laptop hard drive. My sister got a virus on it that when you try to sign on XP it signs on and signs off right away. Before wiping it clean we would like to take the drive out and connect it to a desktop computer to get some files off there.

The drive is a Hitachi Travelstar 60GB. P/N is 0A24703. It says that it is a ATA/IDE. I bought a kit from Tiger Direct a couple weeks ago that claimed it was for connecting a ATA & IDE drive to a computer but the connection that is on this laptop hard drive does not match any of the connections that came with this kit.

I'm not sure where to go from here to be able to connect this drive. Does anyone have any words of wisdom or know of the proper enclosure or connection I need for this?

Why don't you just stick a thumb drive into the laptop and just transfer the files over there in safe mode.

Same thing happens when you try to sign on safe mode...it just keeps signing right off.

Does the connector on the drive look like this?

If it doesn't look like that it may have one of these on it (which is removable).

Thanks snepp. That is exactly what it looks like. I had a feeling that end part would come off but I didn't want to force it just in case it wasn't supposed to.
