    Help With Removing Virus

    Hey guys,

Need a little help here. I was on the 'net today, making my daily rounds of OS, ESPN, etc. Same thing I do everyday. Today I decided to check out 2khockey.net. It's a message board I've been a member at since 2003. However, when I went to the home page, my laptop basically locked up (everything was running extremely slow). Then I get some pop ups and some real stuff from my anti-virus protection.

I had AVG Free installed and running. However, the thing still hit me. It's popping up fake Anti-Virus stuff. I managed to capture some screenshots of it.

    And here's another:

Now, I ran a virus scan and I guess AVG got rid of whatever it could find. But the anti virus pop ups continued. They're obviously fake... the little balloon in the second picture clearly shows this, as most of the grammar is off. I'd expect Windows to get their grammar correct.

So anyway, I got rid of AVG as it clearly didn't get rid of this stuff. I installed Avast! and ran some scans and the pop ups still persist.

    What's my next option?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds similar reading through the first few pages (I'll read more when I have the time). Thanks for the link, Blzer. Hopefully this can get fixed. My PC just crapped out on me (hardware problem) so the laptop has been my last resort. Now it's having problems. Pretty frustrating.

      Thanks again, though.

That happened to me too. My computer shut down and wouldn't start back up. I ended up uninstalling the operating system and putting it back in.

          Try Malwarebytes.

              Hmm...

Well I started up the laptop this morning. One of the first things to pop up was an alert from Avast!, saying that a trojan was found. The location of the virus was spot on too (I had found it before, under a sysguard.alert type name but I was unable to actually get to it).

The pop ups are gone. I just hope it actually eliminated the whole thing and it's not still hiding somewhere and silently killing the laptop.
