    Re: RCA Flatscreen

So 720P vs 1080P isn't that important if we are talking about a small-ish TV?

I'm looking for something in the neighborhood is 26-32 inches.

I've read anything under 32" there is no reason to pay the extra for 1080.
When rookie Randall Cobb was told by this U.S. Marine that he was a big fan of the wide receiver, Cobb said, “I think I’m a bigger fan of yours.”

Good picture for the money. Good choice.

I'd probably say up to 50 inches....definitely 42. 720p is more than enough for most. Just depends on what area you want to splurge on. You could go for the biggest picture/lowest cost or highest resolution.

IMO, 1080p is a waste at 32 or under. Use the extra $80-100 toward a blu ray player or some movies.

I've found a 22inch Vizio 1080P for only 240 bucks...I don't need something huge and it will be bigger than my 19inch Samsung I have now.

I have a 32 inch Vizio and it has been a trooper.
                Update!
After spending the weekend with my new Vizio I am in love!!! lol
All kidding aside it is really a great TV for the money. I cant believe how good MLB 2K9 looks on this TV, it is such an upgrade over my old TV.
Also I bought a $9 antenna to pick up the HD feeds and it is ok. The channels come and go with this antenna. When they do come it the picture looks great, the problem is the channels dont always come in.

                Gamecock,
What do I need the HDMI cables for??

My wife has decided to buy me a flatscreen for Fathers Day but she wants me to pick it out and she wants me to stay around $700.00 to $800.00. I really want a 42" and I really want it to be 1080.
With that being said I noticed Wal-Mart has a 42" RCA 1080 for $698.00 on sale now. They also will throw in 7 surround sound speakers and a DVD player for $100 more if you buy the RCA.
I have heard both really bad things about RCA flatscreens and some good.
                  Any thoughts or experiences??
Link below for the one I looked at.

For that price, I'd go with Vizio. I have a 32" 720p Vizio in my bedroom, and a 42" 1080p Vizio in my living room... they are FANTASTIC.

                  [EDIT]

Whoops, didn't read through the whole thread! Congrats dude!

If you get HD from DTV, you would need one then, but it should come with one. Also you can hook up your 360 if you have a HDMI port on the back of the 360, original ones don't have it.

Most people have their 360 or PS3 hooked up to their tv and/or surround sound system using HDMI. It's a cleaner install...just one cable instead of component and audio cables.

HDMI cables are cheap ($6-8 shipped) at www.monoprice.com

The AACS only allows 1080i and 720p via component cables, so thats something consider since you have a 1080p set.

1080p is only allowed thru DVI, HDMI and VGA. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

I was all set to Get a LCD over 40 Inches by the end of summer, but after reading this, im not so sure.

I have a 55" Hitachi Plasma made in 06 and the HD is really nice but up close its not that nice looking (about 3ft) and i know you're not supposed to watch HD tvs that close. However my 27" LCD i dont have that problem, i can be a few inches away and everything will look great.

Does it matter the size? Or whether its a LCD or Plasma? Or the age?

What are you feeding the tv? blu rays, regular DVDs, etc? Imperfections in the source material are going to be magnified on a bigger screen. What is the native resolution on your plasma? And how is it hooked up? (HDMI, component, composite, etc)
