Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

Prince of Persia. It started out really bad, and a lot of it is really cheesy. I couldn't get over the fact that 90% of the cast is Caucasian with shiny white teeth.

It got better as the movie progressed though. I've never played any of the new PoPs (think back to the original 2D version), so I don't know anything about the VG storylines, but I thought the movie plot was interesting. Some of the action scenes were redundant. A lot of the acting was pretty bad at times.

I don't know why I was expecting more from a film made from a video game. The trailer made it seem like it would be better than the typical video game movie, and it was, but just not as much as I was expecting.

Yeah I knew about the stars being white British people but it's amazing that they completely whitewashed everyone, except the obligatory African.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

          Prince of Persia, 8.7

I really enjoyed it. It was sort of predictable of course but fun nevertheless. The special effects were alright borderland good and the acting was just fine. Definitely on the level of the Pirates series

I'm going to assume that you meant to put "not" after definitely cause Prince of Persia is nowhere near the Pirates series in anything.

Finally got around to watching 500 Days of Summer. I knew it would be good going into it and I wasn't disappointed. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of my favorite actors, and chemistry with Zooey was very believable. Lots of funny moments, really cool editing, and a fantastic story. Great movie.

I don't think you fully understand the concept of people having their own opinion. IMO, it wasn't as good as the first Pirates, but it sure was on par with the craptacular sequels.

Kick ***- I loved it, the swearing didnt bother me in the least and I really enjoyed the over the top action as well. Will definitely be buying this when it comes out on blu-ray.

Having your own opinion doesn't mean that it can't be questioned or criticized, that's what just about every thread on here is based around.

Evil Dead & Evil Dead II. Still freakin' classics IMO.

Just picked up Army of Darkness on Blu-Ray, that's next. I'm interested to see how much better it looks & sounds on the BR.

                          Watching Quarantine right now...

...jesus this movie is just not that good. It might be better if they didn't use the dumb camera angle and shaky camera technique, but even that probably wouldn't save it from the sheer idiocracy of some of the characters. I haven't seen characters this dumb in a "zombie/infection" type of movie in a long, long time. Oh, little girl just bit Mama and ran away....and then you find her and you walk up to her all nice, and then when you get close enough, you look back at someone else? You deserve to get your eyeballs eaten like grapes.

Oh, and Jennifer Carpenter (Michael C. Hall's wife, Deb on Dexter) is terrible.

                              shutter island.

very good. Caprio to me has finally become a true leading man. I've never really liked him before this, but never hated. As he's aging he becoming much more complex and a MUCH better actor.

The movie to me was very well done and MS is one of the greats. As someone who's made a film before, I actually watched it twice and jotted down some notes, and now I want to talk to the director about how he went about shooting those group conversations. It was really interesting to me and don't know how they made those decisions.

In film you never break the 180 degree rule...never. They did though, but out of necessity. I really want to pick their brain about this because it's extremely complicated. I enjoy film because I can watch it as a fan, but can switch gears and think about it critcally...this is great because it would suck if I was always thinking about the form.

Anyway, it was just all around an well-made film.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, an easy example is sports. Hockey or football. All of the cam's are located on one half of the playing field and you have a few specialty cam's on the other side and one master reverse angle. This is necessary so as not to confuse the audience...for example in hockey if you cut across to the other side of the rink the audience would be confused because the player is skating the other way and it's disorientating. ... actually that's the biggest issue with player-switching in backbreaker.
Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.
