Hot Tub Time Machine: Well, that was stupid. In the best possible way. I loved every stupid minute. Sometimes you just need mindless laughs, and this movie has that in spades. One of the funnier movies in recent memory. I liked it better than, for example, The Hangover. Letter Grade: B+

One thing's for absolutely sure, I'll never be able to hear Shia LeBeouf's name without laughing again.

GI Joe. Cheesy plot, but plenty of mindless action. The audio track was crazy. As far as a movie: C+ Blu ray PQ/AQ: B+

I agree, pretty good flick; however i think Damon needs to do something new. My goodness, he plays the same roles with the same straight face in all his movies. I guess thats why i want to see The Informant, it doesn't seem like his usually stale personality.

But the Greenzone was pretty good.

While i agree with that it seems to work for him. I remember reading something a little while ago that calculated the income of movies relative to the expense of the movie and what the actor got paid and Damon was number 1 by a country mile. So basically his movies cost less to make, he doesn't ask for as much money as a Cruise / Hanks etc but they make major bank at the box office. He's prob thinking if it ain't broke, don't fix it and keeps doing very similar roles.

I saw that too. He is very different in it and it has good moments. It's long and slower, but I can't say that I didn't like it. It's just not a movie I'd ever want to see again, it doesn't have multiple view staying power.

Some great lines and brings some new things to cinema but I would never be on here an flat-out recommend. I think you have to be someone who's into movies enough to appreciate it. A casual movie person would not like imo.

The preview also does not lend itself to getting a feel for the film either. It's quite a strange movie.

Just watched Mystery Team (Donald Glover) and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (Sam Rockwell).

Both were good, 4* for Mystery Team, 5* for Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

About to put on "The Lookout" (Joseph Gordon Levitt) Blu Ray.

River World - Seen it on netflix instant and the wife was like I want to watch it now. So we watched it, more of a 2 part made for tv type of movie then actual movie. Kind of looked like one of those made by scifi channel type of movies, but it was actually good.

Bolt -It was ok.....wife loved it though.

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

The other night I watched a fairly pedestrian and somewhat disappointing Charles Bronson film called St. Ives (1976). That's not to say it was a BAD movie just that it looked rather cheap and the story was a little hard to follow at times. Bronson was his usual self and it makes me sad that we no longer see movies with regular looking guys thrusted into totally foreign situations. Bronson to me, always had that cool demeanor but still being "of the people". The movie also had some other great talent in John Houseman, Jacqueline Bissett and even Maximillian Schell in a minor role.

                  Here's the plot line:

Abner Procane, top L.A. burglar, finds that somebody stole his plans for next ambitious heist. He hires Raymond St. Ives, crime novel writer, to negotiate the return of those documents.
Procane is played by Houseman and is portrayed as an old eccentric man who is fraught with personal fears and also being a bit above the "dirty work". Nonetheless he hires Bronson to be the go-between in getting his journals. (with the plans) Jacqueline Bissett is Houseman's lovely assistant and she has a thing for Bronson throughout. Anyways all isn't what it seems and Bronson keeps running into dead bodies.

The first half of the film is quite strong that way but once Procane gets his journal back and Bronson agrees to help out with the money heist all things go to hell and the movie starts to lose its focus. The acting is quite strong all the way around but the material is beneath the level of the participants.

As much as this looked like a typical '70s detective show it still had its charm and Bronson alone almost makes up for the muddled mess of a script.

2 out of 5 stars (just for the actors and Bronson overall)

I watched The Dead Zone today on netflix; interesting movie, but I kind of got bored and fast forwarded to the end. Maybe it's just me, but I just wanted to know what happened, and I didn't want to sit through all the middle stuff to get there.

I also added a ton of horror movies to my netflix instant queue, so I'll be trying to watch those when I can.

Watched Dead Girl and Evil Dead today.

Dead Girl is simply a "what the ****?"

Evil Dead was great. I want to watch the 2nd now, but it's not on streaming yet. I've got Army of Darkness of DVD, though. I may watch that again.

Is Dead Girl the movie where:
                        Spoiler

If so, I read about that awhile back, didn't sound like something I would want to see.

                        Anyway...

The Karate Kid (original) - you know, this movie isn't as corny as I remember it being or even want it to be. Sure, the 80s soundtrack dates it, but come on, its epic at the end. It is corny in the beginning, but the relationship between Daniel and Miyagi is terrific. Such a fun movie. Daniel was a bitch at the beginning though, no new kid would ever dare act that cocky and wonder why he gets the **** beat out of him.

Home Alone - Its just hilarious. What else is there to say. Plus it possibly has one of the best fake movie scenes ever.

Yes. I'd heard decent things about it, but I'm not so sure those people were sane now.

I watched Nightmare on Elm Street and Fair Haired Child this morning.

Nightmare was pretty good. It seemed to have dated well, although Freddy isn't scary in the least - it's more the other stuff that's pretty creepy; like the high school scene with her dead friend.

For some reason my babysitter showed me this when I was like 7 or 8. Totally screwed me up for years - had to sleep with sheets over my head and couldn't never look out. Now watching it, I wonder what kind of idiot babysitter would watch that with a 8 year old kid.

                            I'm over it now, though.

Fair Haired Child was downright idiotic and pointless. I feel dumb for having wasted my time with that garbage. The cover looked good, though. I think it was from TV series that was on several years ago - where directors took turns making horror movies each week or month for it. This one sucked.
