The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck and Sam Shepard

Description: Robert Ford, who's idolized Jesse James since childhood, tries hard to join the reforming gang of the Missouri outlaw, but gradually becomes resentful of the bandit leader.

    Recommendation: Extremely High.

Notes: It's long and docu-drama in nature. The cinematography is wonderful. The interplay is done well. It's a long, drawn (but not drawn-out) movie, so give yourself plenty of time. Casey continues to show his brother how to act.

Kung Fu Panda. Have seen bits and pieces of this but never sat down to watch the whole thing til today. Not legendary like most Pixar movies but KFP (Dreamworks) is very good. Easy recommendation. May watch KFP 2 tonight.

Universal Soldier. Solid sci-fi action flick. Jean Claude Van Dam movies can be a hit or miss. This one got me wanting to see the newest version--Regeneration.

Just saw The Guardian with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher. It was a damn good movie imo. I have a whole new respect for what the US Coast Guard does on a daily.

Real Steel - Thought it was going to be really stupid but I actually enjoyed it. Reminds me of those 80's movies that are corny but has a charm and has the underdog story going for it. I thought the fighting was really cool with the robots.

                Spoiler

50/50 - Funny and emotional for sure. It was really hard for me to watch since I lost my grandpa to cancer but I think its something everyone should watch.

Why did you find the ending to be weak?

Excalibur - For some reason, watching it today felt like I was watching it for the first time. The dialogue, specifically Merlin's, is clever and at the base really kind of humorous. At least the first half of the movie. Arthur was a straight badass, too. Making a B-line straight through people. Helen Mirren was damn sexy back in the day (still is, honestly). I guess it officially comes back into the fold of being my #1. I had grown up watching this thing probably thousands of times, but a lot of things clicked into place that I hadn't even noticed before. Percival journey before the third act feels like Stanley Kubrick's lite version of 2001 (its a good thing). And so on. The last time I watched it I remember not being enchanted with it, but it seems that sense of awe has been rekindled.

Easy A - Some friends came over and wanted to watch this. As much as I want to love this movie, it will probably never amount to being anything greater than a simple, good movie. It is funny and clever, but the whole high-school setting really throws off a lot of things and kind of keeps me out of fully buying into the movie. Still, Emma is a doll in this and her friend looks like a porn star.

Just watched the hollywood version of Girl with a Dragon Tattoo.

Awesome movie! Definitely hard to watch at times and pretty brutal but considering it came from the director of Se7en I kind of expected that. Kept me locked in right to the end and I actually liked how it tied up a few loose ends at the conclusion of the movie which I had heard other people complaining about before I saw it. 9/10 from me.

Watched Warrior last night. Can't recommend it enough. Nolte turns in an amazing performance. Everyone else is great as well. Tom Hardy is turning into one of my favorite actors. Can't wait to see what he can do with Bane.

Killer Elite: Action packed movie with a good plot starring Jason Staham, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro. There are some really good fighting scenes and action sequences in this film. Recommended.

                              Margin Call:
A film about a financial investment firm at the start of the 2008 financial crisis. Excellent cast including Kevin Spacey and Stanley Tucci. Without a lot of knowledge or interest about Wall Street, this movie kept me interested because of the believable characters and their interactions. Recommended.
