I haven't seen A Good Day to Die Hard but I heard it's got a 12% rotten tomato rating....So yeah, sounds like it's crap.

I will still watch it at some point but not go to the theatres.

By some point you mean 20 years from now.

The trailers for Die Hard looked terrible. Not sure why people thought it was going to be good - or even as good (bad) as the previous "Die Hard."

Funny how Hollywood can't learn from the past. Maybe Willis has been getting involved in too many projects. Having said that, I'm looking forward to RED2.

I want to see Die Hard just because it's the latest movie to play in the Dolby ATMOS-equipped theater in town.

Why you gotta do that to me man?

Actually you might have a point at least in regards to the Die Hard movies as I STILL haven't seen Live Free or Die Hard. (though seems i'm not missing much)

                Christine (1983)

                Plot:

High school geek Arnie Cunningham falls in love with "Christine", a bright red 1958 Plymouth Fury which has seen much better days. Setting himself the task of restoring the car to its original condition, his friends notice that the car is not the only thing that is changing. Arnie seems to spend more and more time with his car. He's also developed a sort of cocky arrogance which does not seem like the real Arnie at all.
Really that's the plot right there. There's obviously a lot more but I'm sure everyone here has seen this movie or at least seen clips/know the storyline.

I have to say that this film was everything I expected it would be with John Carpenter at his best and while the leads were all in the unknown category at the time I thought they did a pretty good job with it. As usual with Carpenter when he was at his height this movie oozed atmosphere. It may not be as atmospheric as his other films of the time period but the cinematography and choice of camera angles was judicious.

One thing I learned after watching this was that the guy that plays Arnie is the main director on the show Dexter. That's a pretty cool piece of trivia. He did a very good job in the role of Arnie and the visual cues to Arnie's possession by Christine was quite creative. He shed his geekiness and started wearing clothes that were evocative of the era that Christine came from. I also liked how his personality started to change slowly then bursting into full bloom as a total A-hole who only cared about his "girl".

Another key component to the film was the music as Christine's radio was a means of showing how "she" felt and was a musical harbinger of doom for anyone that stood in her way. The choices of songs was excellent and even the very few songs current to when the story was taking place were well picked.

The movie has a lot going for it and I know it sounds completely silly when describing it but it actually works within the context of the story. The only complaint I have is the ending which seemed a bit lame AND slightly confusing.

                Spoiler

Overall this was a fantastic film and one i've only seen bits and pieces of previously. Doing post-viewing research it looks like there was a LOT taken out of the book and I'll have to borrow the book from the library as i'm sure there's lots of backstory that bears reading.

                3 out of 4 stars.

NEXT UP: I watch an obscure, unknown movie from the '30s called Federal Man-Hunt. Will it be worth the viewing or was it better left in the dustbin of history? Only time will tell.

                  Identity Thief

Pretty terrible. Not much to say outside of that. Sure there were a few good laughing moments, but an incredible amount of jokes fell flat, and it ran unnecessarily longer than it should have been. Not a good "buddy-buddy" cross country travel film.

There were one or two points in the final act that showed there was promise for a story like this with a more serious/dramatic take to everything, but they went for stupidity and ridiculousness where it was beyond unwarranted. I always enjoy Bateman and tolerate McCarthy, and it was nice to see Amanda Peet on the big screen again, but everybody else was just awful.

Two couples directly in front of me walked out early (not at the same time, but both pretty early on). I've never walked out of a film before and I wouldn't have walked out of this one if I was that kind of person, but the payoff isn't anything special either, so choose to leave when you shall (assuming you watch this).

The good news is that I think if I see A Good Day to Die Hard soon enough, it will help cleanse the poor aftertaste that Identity Thief left me, and I'll actually enjoy the film a bit despite the poor reviews and impressions.

                      Flight:

Meh. I thought it was a decent movie but I didnt care about the main character like I think I was suppose to. He was a dick, and was a dick throughout. I guess at the last moment he had a character flip and the development was a flash cut to a months later scene. I can understand that I wasnt suppose to like Denzel's character but I mean I became apathetic to him. Then his random crackhead girlfriend storyline was a big wtf is the point of this? And his ex wife son side story was a big why arent you in this more? Idk, but on a technical aspect I liked it. The scene with the plane was awesome. The scene with him in the hotel room before his hearing was so bull****.

                      Django Unchained:
Bad *** movie. Could have done without the morbid use of the word. This isnt a time piece (documentary wise) so no it wasnt necessary. Anyway, Jamie was alright but was way blown out by Leo and Waltz. Not a fan of the Unckle Ruckus portrayal by Samuel L. But it is what it is. I wish my wife Kerry Washington has less dispair scene and more sexy scenes but thats just me being selfish. And those slave fighting scenes and the dog scene was just disgusting and could have went without them. It was just disturbing to me. But hey looking at a whole it was a decent enough experience and the action was good. It did jump from tame to extreme at the end though.

                      Hunger Games:
I was surprised by how much I liked this movie. Well the movie wasnt all that but the concept was refreshing only because it targeted and used teens and had them murdering each other. But when I took a step back, the concept of kids murdering each other was just ridiculous. But once I just accepted the mythos I had fun. The ending reminded me this was a movie for teens with the rainbows and butterflies ending.

                      Taken 2:
Once it hit me that they were in the same situation in Europe again I was done. Why would his family ever leave america again? More importantly why would he not tear them a new one and send them back immediately once they surprised him in Europe? You daughter just escaped the slave trade for ****s sake. Oh and when the girl started chucking grenades around left and right it was the icing on the cake. It was a lame phone it in action sequel for me. The only positive was the concept of the daughter saving her father from being taken but meh the execution didnt do it for me.

                      Seven Psychopaths:
I went in expecting a Smokin Aces action film but it really was far from it. Interesting take on the creative process of film writing. I always appreciate a story that comes full circle by the end where the multiple stories converge like this one did. But you have to go into it for more than just shooting everything action. It can be a drag with the down time if you do. Colin Farrell was the weakest performance in this for me. His character was the least interesting and it was the guy we're suppose to care for the most.

                      Brave:
I just got a giant How to Train a Dragon vibe from this one. It was good enough to take you kids to, but it isnt one of Pixar's crowning flagship films. Its so average. I was disappointed. I was however happy to see a mother daughter animated film. We dont see that all that often.

                      Mission Impossible 4:
I loved that they focused on the team more so that just Tom Cruise. I really enjoyed this movie. The main villains didnt connect for me but it was a nice paced action movie. The ending was kinda corney but it was a nice enough wrap to the film.

Warm Bodies. Was surprised at how good this was. Pretty funny, and the lead actress was like the much more talented, much hotter version of Kristin Stewart. Good stuff.

A Good Day to Die Hard

Hilariously stupid, yet stoopidly awesome. Unfortunately, Die Hard as we know it is only but a memory engraved in our skulls... or on Blu-ray. My point is that studios detach so far from original pieces when they're 25 years removed, and I don't think they even care, which is rather disappointing. Make an action movie which somehow involves national terrorism (this one least of all), put Bruce Willis in it, call him John McClane, and let him say his "Yippee ki-yay" line... apparently that's all that's needed for a DH movie these days.

Nonetheless, it was entertaining through its impactful action. Lots of cars being smashed up, bullets being fired, and shards of glass breaking left and right. Dolby Atmos theater elitists should be pleased. Too much action made the final act a bit tiresome (I was admittedly getting sleepy at one point and struggled to keep my eyes open), but there were still good moments which brought me fully back again and again. The R-rating sure helped out, giving us a few F-bombs and blood spurts. I enjoyed that, since it was missing in LFoDH. They even paid homage to the first film once or twice. The one, most important thing about these films is that through thick and thin, there is still a moment where John McClane is shown to have a heart. That's what let me crack a smile despite everything else that just made it seem like a run-of-the-mill mindless action film.

The villain was uninspiring and forgettable, the "partner" aspect of the film took a while to make happen, and yet there is still room for probably one more Die Hard installment before Fox and Willis call it for good. I personally have good ideas for what they should do, but it involves feeling awfully nostalgic and forgetting about the last few films which used a longer period of time and a larger explorable area. In short, it would be nice if we were confined in small quarters again and calling in RVJ and BB one more time.

Not the worst that could come out of the franchise, but I expected so much more. I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy this once the Blu-ray comes out.

Oh, and just as an oddball twist, I was given four consecutive trailers with Dwayne Johnson in it: Snitch, Fast & Furious 6, Pain & Gain, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Wife and I had an afternoon date to lunch and then went to see this. Surprisingly not a bad film. It actually had a good amount of thriller storyline in it which is different for Nicholas Sparks. Not to mention also that the girl in this movie is unbelievably hot.

I don't buy into all these types of movies being labeled as "chick flicks". Good storyline and good acting all around. Take your wife, girlfriend, significant other, etc to see this. Not bad at all.
