Seems like they've tried Doctor Doom 3x now and he always ends up looking like a kid in a Halloween costume. DD had punch and power. I haven't seen the new FF, but even in the trailers, he's not portrayed as bad *** like Ultron.... more like an annoyance.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I dunno how they keep screwing up Dr. Doom...Actually I kinda do. If you read the comics (i'm talking about the ones in the 60s and 70s) Dr. Doom is essentially in a lot of ways a precursor in look, feel and attitude as Darth Vader. Unfortunately, you can't really make him like that in a theatrical film because those who aren't in the know will call him a Vader rip off whereas in reality Vader is a rip off of Doom!
It's quite unfortunate really because film makers try to make Doom a bit different in style and scope than he is in the comics which gives us these rather insipid iterations of the character.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
There's a lot to the script i didn't get. They could have skipped almost the whole first act and just start them as adults and had more time to flesh out the characters and Doom.
Fox should just give this up back to Marvel. Marvel WILL get this right. They need a comedic touch to it like GotG/Antman and it will succeed.
Honestly, save your money, you'll be pissed walking out of it. Now it makes sense with all those bad reports coming from it that Josh Trank was ****ed up the whole time and ****ed up this movie. No wonder he lossed Star Wars, what a dumb *** and he put a scar on bunch of talented actors resume.Last edited by RockinDaMike; 08-06-2015, 03:28 AM.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Rotten Tomatoes is giving the new FF a whopping 8%!
This may have been the most harsh review:
"An outstretched, moronic, drama-less time-suck that somehow manages to be less fun than Pixels, which was only slightly more enjoyable than slamming a door on your face."
Maybe they should have stayed traditional.Last edited by daflyboys; 08-06-2015, 10:31 AM.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Yeah just plain waste of time. After sleeping on it its worst than I initially thought. I wanted to like this film because I'm fans of Teller, Mara and Jordan and there's really a good story you can make with these heroes. The first two movies are trash, and this is more watchable but the movie is just boring, nothing really happens. I dunno what I was thinking giving it a C, its more a D. I hate how movies are setting up other movies nowadays, instead of making a good movie.

There's a whole act of the film where they concentrate on the characters as kids? (teenagers I hope) That....that doesn't work IMO. Any FF origin story should start with their transformation and go from there.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I have seen Mission Impossible and Southpaw this weekend. Both awesome and recommended. Going to see either Vacation or Ant Man tomorrow, haven't decoded which yet.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
A couple movies from the mid '30s (1934 and '35 respectively)
British Agent: This is quite a good and entertaining film that actually has a solid grasp on history unlike most movies where history is warped a bit. The film is based on the memoirs of British diplomat R.H. Lockhart about his years in the service especially in Moscow at the time of the Russian Revolution. Leslie Howard plays Steven Locke (the Lockhart analog) while Kay Francis portrays the love interest he rescues during the clashes in the streets of Moscow. Later on they meet again but she's now an important part of the new Soviet government working for Trotsky. Locke is tasked with the job of trying to keep Russia from making a separate peace with Germany so that they could keep fighting the war.
The film balances exposition/history very well with telling the story of the two lovers. Elena (Francis) has to choose country over her love of Locke and she betrays him more than once however their love is strong and there's an understanding that because they're from two different worlds that this kind of thing would happen. For a movie made in 1934 and with a short running time of 80 minutes it sure packs a lot of plot and doesn't lose any effectiveness. It's a well made film which I had only seen bits and pieces of before I viewed it the other night.
Highly recommended.
Crime Unlimited: A rather middling British jewel thief yarn though the wrinkle in this one is that the main character is really a Scotland Yard operative trying to take down the criminal operations of a man called Maddick. It's pretty much what you'd expect from a British jewel thief type movie. There isn't much to see here though the revelation of who Maddick is was pretty good.
Not really anything to write home about. Solid, sturdy little film but nothing really jumps out at you other than Lili Palmer in her ultra tight leather/satin (i'm not sure) dress at a speakeasy.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
