Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Pele Birth of a Legend
I give it a 4 out of 10. Just a vanilla script and the acting was not very good. The futbol action was ok but I also hated that it was in English. If you are gonna have a movie about a legend, it should be in his language. That just puts me out of the movie immediately and probably the main reason i didn't enjoy it.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Honest question:
If I said that I watched Pitch Perfect/Pitch Perfect 2 back to back tonight and was really entertained the entire time, would you think less of me?
Cuz that may or may not have just happened.

Not at all. I love the first one. Didn't like the second one quite as much though. I just don't like how quickly the first one seemed to get a cult following.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

So you're part of a following for a movie you say you love, but you're unhappy a lot of people loved it.badComment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I loved the first Pitch Perfect, laughed my *** off. 2nd one I didn't really like it at all because they were just shoving Fat Amy down your throat and it pretty much copied the beats from the first movie. They also tried to make us like the new girl which didn't work at all.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Loved the first PP, it was entertaining and a well-rounded, well-done flick...and really funny in spots. I actually gave it a watch back when the board here was buzzing about it and you guys did not let me down. Good stuff.
PP2 is still entertaining, and I love the character of Anna Kendrick's producer/boss at the studio; he was amazing. I too loved Hailee in True Grit and she was likable and cute here, but she felt a little forced as did a lot of the film by comparison to the first.GO 'HAWKS!

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
It became immediately quoted everywhere, a sequel was clamored for immediately with no warrant other than wanting more Fat Amy, my softball players get a media guide with bios and everybody's favorite film was Pitch Perfect, poor Anna Kendrick will only be remembered for her role here and not for Up In the Air or 50/50...
And I think a part of it is that I sometimes want to like things that not everybody else does. I liked that it was a guilty pleasure of mine and kind of don't think it deserves all of the cred that it gets. I think it helped wipe off the stink that the show Glee was, because PP did the things right that Glee did wrong (though one is a musical and the other isn't, I get that).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I had to look back at some of my notes on my impressions for PP2, and I caught wind of one thing that I really remembered hating in the film...
I wish they did something different with the ending than the way they gave it to us, but either way I'd say it was fine. Just wasn't a very good sequel compared to its original is all.
SpoilerThe Bellas get justifiably ripped in their a cappella battle in the middle of the movie when Steinfeld's character starts busting out an original instead of doing a cover. So why is it in the end when she does her smae exact original, it gets glorified? Not only that, it starts opening up an opportunity for PP3 to do originals whenever they want, not just our group but any group. I'm not saying originals can't be interesting, but I think we all enjoy it a little bit more when we're hearing mashups of songs that we recognize.
One other part I mentioned was:
However, one scene that really got to me was the campfire scene. Great callback moment to the first film there. Very touching that may have saved this one.
Too much Fat Amy in this one. Again, I think I liked it for different reasons than the cult followers do. I just like that it did right what Glee couldn't, and it mashed up some good songs (whereas these "followers" have never heard of Simple Minds in their lives).Last edited by Blzer; 08-06-2016, 12:44 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I watched an interesting Japanese Sci-Fi movie late last night called Gorath (1962) which basically took the story idea of When Worlds Collide (1951) but rather than building spaceships to leave the Earth the scientists of the world decide to use nuclear based explosion/thrusters in the south pole to...MOVE THE EARTH!
The thing I love about these old Japanese movies is the earnestness in which they tell the stories. They take it so deadly serious that you are either cracking a smile or going for the ride with them. Of course, this movie is known for the rather silly huge mutated looking walrus that disrupts the earth moving plan. The director originally didn't want to put that in there but was pretty much forced to. Other than that one bit of unintentional comedy this was a fairly good movie though the character of Kanai (a young astronaut cadet) is fairly goofy.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
