The Edge of Seventeen. Honestly without seeing the trailer, I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near this. But I gotta say it kept me hooked in. Hailee Steinfeld has a chance of becoming a pretty big star imo. I recall her from the True Grit remake. I need to watch The Keeping Room from a few years back, but it's hard to tell what kind of role she has in it. I though Pitch Perfect 2 was pretty forgettable and don't recall her in there. Term Life doesn't look well scripted. Hopefully she'll land roles that are well written for her.

On a side note, the guy that played her brother and the girl that played his gf/Steinfeld's best friend were fantastic in "Everybody Wants Some". I highly recommend that movie.Comment

I really liked this movie. I'm a sucker for coming-of-age movies, and Steinfeld nailed the awkwardness of being a teenager.

My only complaint about EWS is that there wasn't enough baseball, lol.

Watched the new Beauty & the Beast yesterday, I thought it was really good. Picture quality was spectacular even if it wasn't in 4K.PSN-Shugarooo

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
LIFE. Pretty solid cast. Decent enough story for a sci-fi horror. I thought the CGI for the creature was pretty nice, especially in the early going. Definitely some plot holes, but generally a good watch.
SpoilerPlot holes included why are there only 2 escape pods for 6 people and why did the ceiling valves have to close 1 at a time in an area as import as a lab? I know it's all for the drama, but....
Somewhat left open for a sequel, but it's probably better left alone. By the way, are all aliens stronger, faster, smarter and uglier than us everywhere?Comment

Ms. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Good older kids flick. Didn't realize Samuel L Jackson was in it.
Lone Survivor. Great war movie based on a true story. The 4K picture quality is very good.Comment

I finally saw La La Land tonight...I'm not a big movie guy, but I enjoyed this one."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Going through the Star Wars series, never actually posted about it in here before(I don't think), so figured I'd just post here as I eventually go through the series.
1st one as bad as everyone says it is, I'll always not entirely hate it since it was the first one I ever saw. Darth Maul was one of my fave characters from it, I actually had a watch with him on it too. And played the N64 game so much too. Looking back on it, never realized how little importance that video game had to the Star Wars series though lol.
Episode 2 obviously better than 1(though amount of C3PO and JarJar was overkill), and of course the seeds started for the Vader turn. Blu-Ray version I watched I don't mind it vs original. As long as older shows/movies aren't horribly zoomed in to fit 16:9 format, I like when things get "modernized" to fit HD standards.Comment

Colossal. This was really weird in a different way. Overall I was a bit disappointed and there was a huge plot hole, so to speak.
SpoilerAlso, did not like seeing Jason Sudeikis in a negative role.
The confusing thing was if they new the monster was going to appear in the same spot every time,
then why keep the area so heavily populated?Last edited by daflyboys; 06-11-2017, 08:30 PM.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
The Stooge (1951)
This Martin and Lewis movie is unlike the rest in their oeuvre as it's more drama than comedy. It tells the story of Bill Miller (Martin) as an egotistical Vaudeville singer/comedian who takes in the glory, fame and limelight of the success mainly generated by his "stooge" Ted Rogers. (Lewis) The movie parallels what would eventually happen to the two in real life with the main difference being that they would make up and continue their act in the film whereas in reality they stopped talking for 20 years. The film is pretty good though the singing grinds the plot to a halt at times. Nonetheless Dean and Jerry do a great job and you can really tell this was played as something a bit more personal for the two. Polly Bergen turns in a good performance as Dean's suffering wife.
Overall, despite the realism that exposed the real life cracks in the Martin and Lewis relationship this is a very well done film so if you run across it take a look. I think you'll find it interesting if it's just for the subtext.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Disney's live action remake of Beauty and the Beast impressed me. Very well done. I think going forward it will be my preferred version.
Kudos to Kevin Kline for doing a lot with a little, he added a lot to the character of Maurice. Emma Watson gave a very good turn as Belle and sings very nicely.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Lol ya I'm behind on some movies.. I just saw San Andreas. Didn't think it was so bad. Not great, but not horrible either. The Rock and the character who played his daughter were the 2 main good ones in it.
In terms of natural disaster movies, Day After Tomorrow is one of my faves. San Andreas was like a bigger budget, but worse quality version in a way.Comment
