Mmmm...gonna differ with you on that one. I think Cool Runnings had a few good scenes/lines with Candy, and he certainly had had his dog movies over the years, but Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Del Griffith is up there. His dramatic element at the end (and in the hotel room for that matter) I think had some people interested in casting him for more serious roles in time. Such a shame.

Finally got around to checking out Murder Rap , a documentary by the lead detective of the Tupac/Biggie murders detailing all of the information on the killings.

I'd heard a ton of theories growing up but never did any digging to see what I could find. The killers weren't really important to me, the milk is already out of the bottle so to speak, but the details were interesting.

The most interesting part to me is the reason the investigation happened: they didn't care who killed them really. The popular theory at one point was that a dirty LAPD cop with affiliation to the Bloods had killed Biggie, so Biggie's mom sued the LAPD for his potential life earnings, up to $400 mil, and then they had a reason to find the actual killer... Or at least to clear their own names.

Long story short, they find this dude who used to run with the Southside Crips and hang out with Diddy back in the day. They use charges in a completely unrelated drug case to get him to cooperate. They ask him if they had anything to do with killing Biggie, he said "that one wasn't us". They said well which one was... Dude tells the story of how Suge had Puff shook and Diddy out out a million dollar hit on both Tupac and Suge Knight (the... funny isn't the word, but funny part was the detective asks Keffe D (the Crip) who came up with the number and dude said "oh that was definitely Puff, we would've killed him for 50 grand"). The details basically amount to Occam's Razor. The night Pac got killed he had jumped a dude who was a Crip, and Keffe's nephew. They were going to kill Pac anyway, and said "**** it, might as well do it tonight", so while he didn't really bring death on himself as some may think, he expedited it. After that, Suge had his right hand man take Biggie out. Both shooters are dead. To verify the details of Biggie's murder, the cops, as they put it, put on a ruse (lied) by fabricating evidence that was signed by the dead shooter as if he had already implicated the other person (Suge Knight's girl). The hit for Biggie was 25 grand. The chick gave the shooter 12 and kept 13 for herself.

It hit me listening that these happened 6 months apart. I don't think I ever realized that. I was 2 when Pac died, 3 for the GOAT, so I was just in the stroller listening to Wu-Tang oblivious at the time. Trying to imagine what it would be like if like, Drake and Kendrick were killed within half a year of each other. I can't even think it man, and neither of them are close to on that level (of importance). Wild, gotta read the book.

Also, once they found this out, they (the LAPD) dropped the investigation because their name had been cleared. No one was charged and the department told the public they had no new information on the case.

So i'm in 1951 in my watching of old movies on my list and got to watch a Humphrey Bogart movie I haven't seen before (shock! Horror!) and a Van Johnson war movie.


The Enforcer

Bogart plays a DA who is trying to bring down a Murder Inc. type racket. He has his one and only witness that will bring down the head of the racket but the guy is so scared for his life that while being held in the criminal courts building he gets himself killed trying to escape. That whole part is the basis for the first 15 minutes of the film which is tense and taut. The ending is also very good. It's the middle part of the film that isn't the greatest as they flashback to the beginning of the case up until that night before going to trial. Bogart is excellent in this and it's probably the last of the "Old Bogie" tough guy roles. (with the exception of The Desperate Hours) The acting is fine throughout. Ted De Corsia is quite good as the witness/gang member Rico. You get to see him as a calm, cool and collected guy during the flashback. De Corsia did a great job of showing his fear and hesitancy in the early part of the film as a great contrast to how he's portrayed throughout the middle section.

It's a pretty good movie even if it's lesser Bogart.



Go for Broke!

This movie is in bad need of a modern version. It tells the story of the famed and most decorated 442nd regimented battalion in WWII made up of Japanese Americans. The head of the group is played by Van Johnson who at first hates his job and is pretty much against having to work with them but the men show their mettle in battle and he soon respects them. The movie has some action but it's mostly a character piece looking at the lives and background of the soldiers. The movie is a good overview of their exploits but I think a modern approach that deals with the racial tensions and actual battle would be a wonderful way to bring this still somewhat little known story more fully out in the open.

I know I am extremely late as this movie came out in 2009 I believe, but I finally got around to watching Watchmen (the Directors cut) since it is available on Amazon Prime. I haven't read the graphic novel yet but will very soon, as I know its better than the movie (from what I've heard). Overall, I liked the movie. I knew it was a different kind of "superhero" movie based on what I have heard about the graphic novel, but I enjoyed the overall movie. I wanted to watch this and read the graphic novel since DC is integrating that universe with Batman/Superman's universe in the comics and I just wanted to get a background of who these characters are. I have yet to read the Doomsday Clock series (as I am waiting for it to finish so I can buy them all at once) but hopefully this will give me a good background of what the Watchmen story was about before reading those issues.

Watched "Whiplash" for I think the 4th time. Only really one incredulous part.

Saw Hell Fest with the wife today. Movie is actually pretty decent. The concept actually made sense.

Had some good jump scares. The acting wasn't bad either.

I popped in Eagle Eye for the first time in a long while, and I like it more than I remember. It's not stellar, but it certainly had redeeming qualities. While watching, I just sat there thinking that this film was released before its time really... that this cyber terrorism schlock feels more relevant now (or in the future) than it did ten years ago.

The only thing I couldn't ever really look past though was the age difference between LaBeouf and Monaghan. Someone identifies Monaghan's character as "mid-to-late 20's," uh huh... combine that with like her ten year old son, and forget about it. If they filmed it with Shia's age now and Michelle's age when it was actually made, I think I could jive with that a lot more if they wanted to hint at even the smallest semblance of a romantic connection between the two.

Fun car chases as well. D.J. Caruso found the right balance in those scenes between chaotic and grounded, something that the F&F movies have lost touch with after Fast Five.

After forcing myself to watch the Bruce Willis roast (I have no idea why I did this), got a hankering to watch Looper again. Yes, I know about the whole narrating thing not making sense, but didn't care.... solid movie.

Just finished watching 'Tag'....it's very good, I really enjoyed it.

I've been considering a digital rental of 'Solo' but can't quite bring myself to do it since most of my friends didn't care for it.

I actually thought Solo was pretty good. I don't understand all the hate to be honest. Start Wars fans can be crazy critical is all I can guess. But I think it's well worth it. Especially if you go in without expectations of things having to be a certain way. It's quite enjoyable.

The Monster Squad - I wound up actually liking this movie. It's corny and fills out the laundry list of horror movie tropes, but it has charm and personality thanks to the kids. This is one I wouldn't mind watching once every year or two, but I wouldn't add it to my personal collection. A good horror movie for parents and kids and features some truly bizarre monster killing shots.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space - I liked how the girl knew all along and of course nobody listened to her. Terribly funny. Or perhaps terrible and funny? Dumb fun. I empathized with the clowns more than I expected to.

Funny enough, I went for it and rented 'Solo' yesterday anyway...damn Star Wars bug always seems to get me.

Perhaps my rock-bottom expectations helped, but I thought it was a fun little SW movie; very different and lighter in tone than more recent SW films and so I kind of liked that. I could see 20-nothing Han Solo being kind of like what was presented, though I would think a bit less idealistic given his growing-up situation.

Glover was outstanding as Lando, and it's always good to see the Falcon I have a thing for E. Clarke so her presence brightened up the place. Kessel Run sequence was good fun Star Wars.
