It's on ****ing Netflix? I just Redbox'ed it last Friday. Great, well then that was $2 well spent! Actually, I prefer renting a Blu-ray anyway for the AV quality, but free is free, right?

Anyway, I watched it and I really like what it was going for. It surprised me what they did with it early on, actually. I think it petered out at the end to "wait for Netflix/rental" territory, but it definitely hit the likes of something like Joy Ride, The Hitcher, Duel... things like that. Russell Crowe definitely chews the scenery in it, and man I don't know if he put on some weight for the role or if he just put on some weight but he is a big boy. I am a fan of Russell Crowe though, so it was easy to like him in it.

There are moments in the film that I kind of question the "legitimacy" of, but I thought it was good suspense. I'd check it out.

^ Yeah his weight gain was what I noticed right off the bat. I looked it up and it says he gained weight for playing the role of Roger Ailes, the late chairman and CEO of Fox News, in the Showtime TV series*The Loudest Voice.

Talladega Nights: The Story of Ricky Bobby

I am not usually a fan of Will Farrell when he is the lead, and at times it was too much here. Still, it was a pretty funny movie.

Rewatched the 1st film about James Bond with sir Sean Connery. The stunts in the film look funny but taking into account that it was made back in 1962 the work is great. The acting is also fine. No wonder that it is a classic.

I put Casino Royale at #4 with Daniel Craig.

But those first three are timeless classics. Connery was Bond.

Well, this is definitely not as child friendly as My Neighbor Totoro and that's evidenced fairly early on when A****aka starts dismembering clan warriors with his arrow. Not to mention the narrative overall is a lot more complex and working on multiple layers simultaneously. Still, though, the three kids enjoyed it even if they were zoning out during parts. Personally, its one of the best things I've watched in a long time. The animation is fantastic - certainly not as whimsical as Totoro, but just as majestic and visceral in parts. The English cast was good overall, though, some performances came off a little flat (namely Claire Danes as San) and the audio mix for the HBO stream wasn't balanced all too well. Billy Crudup as A****aka was superb and it's always great to hear Keith David's voice.

I haven't read through the thread to see if it's discussed, but In & Of Itself on Hulu is an incredible movie. One of the most compelling things I've watched in a long time and I feel like I totally missed out on the opportunity to see something like this live.

Haven't seen it in years but yeah, the animation still holds up. It isn't a family friendly movie at all, but Tokyo Godfathers is another very solid movie. Anything Satoshi Kon really.

Children of Men

After Alien, I wanted to see what people thought the best sci-fi movies were and this kept popping up so I decided to watch it. Not even sure I'd consider it sci-fi in the same way that Alien is but it's pretty great. The last half hour or so is awesome.

The Raid 2

I remember seeing the first one and thinking it was one of the best action movies I'd ever seen. This one just turns up in every way, I was worried going from under 2 hours to over 2 and a half would make it feel bloated but I read that the first is the movie Gareth Edwards could make given the budget at the time and this is the movie he always wanted to make which sounds right to me. The car chase scene is maybe the best I've ever seen, they let my guy Mad Dog go out like a G, and then the kitchen scene might be the best fight scene I've ever seen. This without even mentioning Hammer Girl and Bat Guy, so glorious. Sitting here thinking, I had my Bruce Lee phase as a kid, then when I saw The Protector I moved into Thai martial arts with the Ong-Bak movies, now Indonesians running the show. For all of the association in my mind that the Japanese have with martial arts, I don't know if I've ever seen a Japanese martial arts movie.

The Raid movies are probably my favorite martial arts movies ever and i've seen a lot of them. I just love the Indonesian movie fight style, its feels authentic, fast, hard hitting and i'm constantly saying "OH ****' through out them. I'm so glad that the fight choregraphers got a lot of love from these movies and got into huge franchises like Star Wars and John Wick.
