I think DALLAS would be a great show to bring back. The concept is universal what with the Romeo/Juliet dynamic of Bobby and Pam and of course the evil scheming of J.R. never gets old.
I think it could work using a scenario somewhat similar to Enron in the way Ewing Oil does business except Ewing Oil would be diversified as an all purpose energy company so not just the oil business. That way they can be involved in an energy AND oil cartel at times.
They could make J.R. very interesting because despite his double dealing and scheming the guy is a complex character in a lot of ways what with his sense of family but only the way he sees fit to run it. I also think the female characters would be more empowered especially Sue Ellen. The whole drunk woman schtick they did for so long can only work for so long before it gets old in a modern setting. It would open up for more interesting power struggles though.
Oh and Cliff would have to win a lot more in a modern DALLAS series. I think he only won one or two confrontations with J.R. The biggest being the offshore oil deal that J.R. had set up to suck Cliff's money dry. Cliff hit oil at JUST the nick of time before everything blew up on him.
