    Cassette Tape to MP3? (PC)

I have a box of tapes that I'd like to convert to MP3 files on my PC before they fall apart from age...

What products have you guys used for this and would reccomend...

    Thanks!

get a two way plug thingy - I don't know what the plug type is called - but the size that fits into the headphone jack - get one that has one on both ends.

Then you plug the tape player into your audio-in port and record directly to Audacity (fiddling with the settings to get it sounding good). Just remember to download the LAME encoder so you can make an MP3.

    Just google Audacity.

I was able to do it with Acid Pro when I was in college. They had it at the radio station on campus so I don't know how expensive or hard it is to get that particular program. The set-up there had the hardware running through a soundboard but you could just hook the player up to your sound card as Timmay described.

My step-dad has an Ion Tape2PC machine that seems to be working pretty well for him.

          Whoops, I wasn't specific enough...

I don;t currently have a tape deck and have very limted experience and patience with tech stuff...

I think I was refering to a deck like the one described above that plays the tape and coverts it to MP3 after installling the software on my laptop...

          Thanks guys!
