But might I add, I am NOT excited or disappointed in this news. I'll judge the finished film.Comment

re: Alien Prequel Now "Prometheus"
This could be exciting..
I just watched the avsp the other night. In it was the alien/'predator mix breed on board the predator ship at the end.
I think expanding this franchise could be interesting. Not that they would continue from there but with that in mind the posibilites are endless."I'm the best there is!"Comment

I thought the whole Alien/Predator mix was silly and forced in order to bring them together in a movie.Comment

re: Alien Prequel Now "Prometheus"
Major update on this project.
Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof have announced that the Alien prequel is no more. Instead, while developing the story for the Alien prequel, they created an entirely new story.
From Scott:
While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.
And from Lindelof:
In a world flooded with prequels, sequels and reboots, I was incredibly struck by just how original Ridley’s vision was for this movie. It’s daring, visceral and hopefully, the last thing anyone expects.
Personally, I'm excited about this news. Lindelof's comment is exactly how I feel. A whole new story surrounding aliens from Ridley Scott.
That's what every sci-fi fan should want.
By the way: I'm changing the title of this thread as a result."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Alien Prequel Now "Prometheus"
Well this works for me as long as the story is very well done. I sometimes hate prequels so many years after the original, it just does not work at times and out of place.Comment

Re: Alien Prequel Now "Prometheus"
Agreed. Though Alien still trumps them all. It was so unique at the time and scary as hell. The whole environment of the ship, the interplay of the crew...just so well done. Not one scene was wasted.Comment

Re: Alien Prequel Now "Prometheus"
I read somewhere that the prequel would explain the ship that had apparently crashlanded in the oringinal. You guys remember the giant ship with the huge Robotech sized dead corpse? Well that's what it was supposed to be about.Comment
