For a while, especially when people try to show the game tracks for Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

WMG is the worst with this, Warner like has an automatic filter to see if any of their songs are being used against their wishes and wham it either gets muted or gets replaced with some sort of classical music.

So in the end you are watching someone FC some ridiculously difficult Metallica song on Rock Band, but instead you see the video but it's accompanied by Enya...

They've been doing that for a while. If a video contains the song they'll start getting rid of the audio and if it is a song they will get rid of the vid. They actually banned a user that put up sightreads of rock band songs.

Youtube has done this to a lot of my videos. It's pretty annoying. Seriously what's wrong with having The Ramones playing in the background of a video I made of my dog during an agility trial. I don't really blame youtube because it isn't there fault, but you gotta blame someone.

Youtube does have a pretty big selection of songs you can use that are licensed. I've never heard of any of the bands, but you can search for songs based on the genre and the length of your video so it matches up. It's cool for them to do that.

It's stupid. Having your song on a You Tube video is like getting free advertising. What if someone hears your song and they decide to buy your album or download your song on iTunes? I don't like this.

WMG is absolutely terrible about this. They wanted youtube to pay like $28 million to let users freely use their songs. I had a video of mine hit, but I just replaced it with some youtube music(a lot to choose from actually). They even took down videos from official artist.

WWE sucks when it comes to video. They took down my video I filmed from in arena, not sure how they identified it so fast, it was literally seconds. They are pretty good though if you put Copyrighted by WWE it will usually stay up.

It's been going on for months and months.

Basically - companies are having videos removed or muted, and accounted even deleted, for using their copyright material.

Personally, I'm fine with it in that it's their right to do so. However, it's pretty ****ing stupid since I myself have bought a lot of song off iTunes because I ran across it on YouTube first.

They're only losing business.

Because it's very easy to rip the audio from youtube videos with free software and convert them to .mp3's. That's how a lot of people were getting songs from Chinese Democracy long before it was released.

There's also something called royalties.

Someone with experience in law could correct me if I'm wrong and maybe re-word it, but...

If you use the song in a video, you're essentially claiming ownership of the song. Even if it's not your intention, that's the way it can be interpreted. One reason to write and perform a song is to make money, and one way they make money is through royalties. You need to pay to use the song, otherwise you're technically claiming ownership.

I'm not saying I completely agree with it (I actually agree it could be free advertising a lot of the time), but it's the way it works.

My APF video got muted. I don't remember the password to that account and whatever e-mail I signed up with wasn't one I currently use so I don't know why exactly. The other 5 are still in tact.

It was my understanding you could use songs if you weren't selling anything,that whole fair use thing. Well there's lots of other video sites out there that don't take stuff down or mute it.

I am hoping one of my other videos doesn't get flagged because I am on 2 strikes. One because of WMG and one from WWE.

It's all background music for movie scenes which sucks, it's not like I am putting the song out for people to download. Hopefully my voice messes up their tracking.
