Most despised Director in Hollywood? Your choice?

I'd have to go with Michael "Screw plot, let's blow stuff up in slow motion" Bay.

Uwe Boll is not applicable as he obviously is the worst "director" to ever sit behind a camera.

    Thoughts?

I'll give him a pass. He's actually a pretty damn good director. What got him into trouble was that he had WAY too much on his plate with writing AND producing movies at the same time along with directorial chores. I think this Last Airbender movie will restore some prestige he once had but those in charge of studios will definitely think twice about him actually WRITING the movies he directs.

Anyways my answer is Michael Bay. He had a shaky reputation before doing the Transformers trilogy and I have a feeling by the time he's done with the TF movies he will be so vilified and despised that it'll be hard for him to shake off the reputation of being a director who cashes in on racist stereotypes, blows things up and doesn't care about script.

It will be VERY interesting to see how he does with a movie that doesn't have any kind of cache like the Transformers or other tent pole type productions.

Don't know if he counts as "Hollywood Director", but I can barely stomach to watch anything by John Woo.

His directing style is absolutely awful.

I don't get the Michael Bay hate. I think he's pretty damn good at what he does, make enjoyable action movies.

What exactly were you guys expecting from Transformers, Armageddon, or Bad Boys?

Plus the fact that nobody has ever tried to explain to me the genius of Michael Bay.

I am going with Tim Burton. M.Night is not too good either IMO, and I like what Bay does since they are just mindless action flicks - But Burton's movies are horrible IMO. I cannot stand any of them.

Michael Bay will be scorned by me for one reason and one reason only. Pearl Harbor.

                Case Closed.

You've never seen the original Batman with Michael Keaton or Beetlejuice? those are pretty well directed movies IMO. I don't care too much for some of Burton's films but i'll give him credit for being creative and "gasp" actually having an original style even if that style is "dark and warped".

I agree with SPTO on Burton. People may not like his movies, but his style is unique and you can tell when you're watching a Tim Burton film.

Re: Most despised Director in Hollywood? Your choice?

I absolutely hate Michael Bay, Roland Emmerich and Tim Burton. However, the team of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Speltzer is by far the worst; even worse than Boll. He at least kind of admits he makes crappy movies. The fact people actually see the crap Friedberg and Speltzer put out is just beyond depressing. To quote a couple critics:

"Friedberg and Seltzer do not practice the same craft as P.T. Anderson, David Cronenberg, Michael Bay, Kevin Costner, Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker, the Wayans Brothers, Uwe Boll, any dad who takes shaky home movies on a camping trip, or a bear who turns on a video camera by accident while trying to eat it. They are not filmmakers. They are evildoers, charlatans, symbols of Western civilization's decline..."
"Writer/directors Friedberg and Seltzer are a scourge. They’re a plague on our cinematic landscape, a national shame, a danger to our culture, a typhoon-sized natural disaster disguised as a filmmaking team, a Hollywood monster wreaking havoc on the minds of America’s youth and setting civilization back thousands of years."
If I ever meet anyone in real life that lists "Disaster Movie" or any of the other cinematic abortions as one of their favorite movies, I'm throwing a right hook.

Michael Bay wouldn't get as much grief if he kept his movies under two hours. 2.5 hours of that kind of stuff is too much.

You know, until that movie, I had no idea that a couple of US Farm Boys singlehandedly....

                              1. Stopped the Nazi Invasion of Great Britain.
                              2. Took out all Japanese planes shot down at Pearl Harbor.
                              3. Flew to Tokyo and bombed it for Doolittle.

I mean...those guys were the greatest American Heroes this country has ever seen.
