I don't much about the kind of power you need to do music production/editing, but maybe look at the 13" MacBook Pro. Might be a on the high side of your price point, but if you are going to make this kind of investment then go a little higher end.

If you are a student or work at a university you can get a little bit of a discount, looks like $100 off. The 13" model with the lower end CPU is $1100 with discount. For $90 more you can add more RAM to get to 4 GB which you need more then the CPU bump. With discount about $1250 w tax added. $1350 with no discount.

That is with no knowledge of the kind of power you need for your music work. If you do need more CPU power then you will not be able to afford one based on your price point as you would need to look at the higher end 15" or 17" models. Good luck, whatever you get you will have a Mac so it will be very nice.

Do you have any ideas of which particular apps you are going to be running? "Music Production" is kinda vague, if you know what it is exactly you'll be doing I think that would help us better to help you.

Just programs like Reason and Pro tools...Space to save my Kits and Virtual instruments plug-ins......Basically thats all I want saved on my memory(and stuff for school)

4GB may be ok for all of that stuff- but that would make everything run slow if I dont have much memory left right?

4 Gig should do you find starting out. I wouldn't worry about that. I can do some decent vid editing and I'm just running 2Gigs on an iMac. 8 Gigs gets real expensive. I mean REAL expensive.

RAM is upgradeable either by yourself or by taking it to any Apple store. So you can get the 4GB of RAM now and just upgrade in the future when you need it. Same goes for the HDD so get the highest model you can get and just upgrade what you need when the time comes.

Enjoy your new Mac when you get one. You'll love it!

Yeah, I was going to mention that but at the prices they want for these modules it's gonna be a long wait.
