Original G.I. Joe cartoon DVD release

The G.I. Joe cartoon series is going to be re-released in mid July. There was a previous DVD set by Rhino several years ago but those were discontinued and are hard to find. Plus, they didn't even release the complete series.

As a kid growing up in the 80s, this was one of my fondest childhood memories. I had all the toys, collected the comics, and watched the show. I still have some of the figures and vehicles. I can't wait to watch these with my kids!

Also very curious how the movie will turn out.

I'm not a huge fan of the TV show. It was pretty corny, even for a kids show. I think I was spoiled by the comic book, which had much better stories. I wouldn't buy the DVD's, but I would probably watch the show if it was on TV.

I remember watching these as a kid.

Have you all seen the youtube videos where someone does voice-overs of the educational segments at the end? Hilarious stuff.

I have this new set releasing later in the month. The dialogue is corny as hell, but the nostalgia factor is great.

Awesome. I have all three of the Rhino releases, but hopefully these new releases cover the whole series. The last Rhino release features the 5-part "Arise, Serpentor, Arise!" storyline which was basically the most awesome thing ever when I was a kid, but Rhino lost their license just when the show was really hitting its stride.

Also, I think the movie is going to suck.

What sucks is that they are re-releasing Season 1 on DVD..........but to get the rest of the seasons there is also a box set with the complete series. Shout! Factory who is releasing these will most likely also release the remaining seasons as standalone.

I realize they were pretty corny, but I'd like to see them again just for nostalgia's sake. It's the same with 80s music...there are some classic songs that stand up very well 20 years later but most of it isn't something you'd listen to for long periods of time.

The cartoon was ok, but it was the comics that did it for me. Thats the G.I.Joe i know and love. Didn't like the cartoon movie at all though.
