I'm not a Quentin Tarantino fan at all but that movie looks and sounds entertaining.

So what makes this movie that much different from Defiance?

Of course Quentin will get the benefit of the doubt because he's Quentin. But Spike can't get a break because he's Spike.

Not all of Spike's movies are bad BUT not all of Tarantino's movies are good.

I didn't see Defiance but it looks funnier than the trailer I saw for it. I love Spike and this was the movie that I was really excited for after I saw him speak at OSU and show a 10 minute clip but the movie just wasn't that good.

I though Defiance was average too. I actually fell asleep on that one.

Quentin has done less films than Spike. He's only directed 5 and imo all of them were good to great. Spike has more good films than Quentin but he's made more than Quentin. I dont know what you are talking about when you say Spike cant get a break. Spike's made 2 univerally great films in Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X. His film before MSA, Inside Man, was a box office hit. I dont know what you are talking about.

If your going to talk smack to Eastwood, the very least you could do is make a good movie. The story deserved better than Spike gave it. I agree it was miscast and way too long.Defiance was kinda boring in spots,but the cast was very good.

I'm hoping Spike makes the "Jackie Robinson Story". I believe he would win that Oscar he's always wanted if he casts and writes it properly. I believe he would,Spike's heart would be in any project involving Robinson.

Nah. This has nothing to do with the director. I LOVE Spike Lee films. Own everyone except for Bamboozled, She Hate Me and MSA. He just did a piss poor job of casting and the movie is about 20 minutes too long.

Honestly, I think it has everything to do with the director. Especially when your dealing with two guys who are on opposite ends of the spectrum in Spike Lee and Quentin Tarantino.

Of course most of Spike's movies gets criticized for many things but it seems like his movies get's the "It's the worst film in history" or "I wasted 2+ hours of my life watching this crap" reviews when someone doesn't like it. Now I appreciate yours and a few others analysis of the movie because it's genuine. You and a few other people actually sat and watched the movie and critiqued on why you didn't like it and how it could have improved. That's fine.

But Tarantino's movies gets rave reviews because of two things, dialog and violence. Which is fine because that's his trademark. But I rarely find any of his movies getting the "It's a pile of crap" or " Worst movie ever" reviews because he's Tarantino. Everybody believes what ever he puts his hand on turns to gold. I personally only like two of his movies, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill Vol.1. I didn't particularly care for the others but I want to know why everyone loves a Quentin Tarantino film before even watching it?

Getting back to Miracle at St. Anna, it only got $3.4 million on it's premier week. I'm interested to see how much money is going to be poured into Tarantino's film.

Cant agree with you at all. The reason for MSA's poor showing was the horrible reviews it received its opening week and the fact that its biggest star was Derek Luke. Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards" stars arguably the biggest movie star in the world, Brad Pitt. Of course, the studio is going to pour more money into that film. Wouldnt you? If you had to bet your house on whether a Brad Pitt movie or a Derek Luke movie would make more money...who would you choose?

Like I said before Spike has done 18 non documentary feature films. Quentin has filmed 5. You cant compare them. I love Spike but out of 18 movies, you are guaranteed to make a few crap movies and he has. Bamboozled was one of them. As Quentin makes more movies, he will make a few crap movies too. Also, the early reviews for IB havent been great.

I have been hearing mixed reviews on this one. I am glad this thread was started though b/c I was wondering about it. Spike Lee makes some good movies so I will probably give it a shot anyway.

Are you guys looking forward to The Road and 2012 or do you think they will disappoint?

BTW, I just saw Miracle At Saint Anna last night and was not impressed. A decent movie but that is all. It was definitely missing something significant that kept it from being a good movie which is too bad as the story had potential. Anyway, I thought Defiance was a better movie in comparison.

The Road certainly looks like it will be a good film and has the star power. However, only time will tell. My guess is it will be a hit this year along with the Where The Wild Things Are Movie. As for 2012, I am not sure. I think it will be widely watched but get mediocre reviews.

I'm w/ you and the OP, and thought this was a masterful/powerful film.

I'm not seeing where the acting was poor. Can someone give an example of "poor-acting" in the film. A scene perhaps.
