    Ant was in my TV!!!

I was playing my PS3 the other nite, and noticed an ant crawling on the screen. I went to flick it off and lo and behold, it was on the inside of the screen!!!

I have a 50" Samsung DLP. No problems with it thus far.

After a bit of walking up and down, I never saw the ant again so I think it is ok.

I also noticed a couple of dirt specs behind the screen on the inside as well. Real small, the biggest one is barely noticeable where I sit and it is just bigger than the tip of a ballpoint pen. The other spots are even small.

Should I just not worry about this or take it apart and clean it. I dont want to do further damage and make things worse. Just wondering what anyone else though. I am anal about my TV though so just what do you guys think?

First put some traps out that will attract them behind the tv. If you find dead ants, you might have a problem. 1 ant leaves a trail for the rest to follow. If they are in your tv, you have big problems as they could cause a short and fry some boards.

Do not open a TV if you don't know what you're doing.

I learned this the hard way.

Seriously...I'd never take apart my LCD, it wouldn't end up put back together right (and I don't really think they're made for the consumer to take apart easily anyways) Some TV's have super high voltages, you don't want to mess around (the newer tv's might not be as bad, but still not 100% sure)

Yeah, the older ones had a transformer/do hicky that held a lethal charge in it's core. We use to have to run those to the dump when left at the property's dumpsters.

Not sure about the newer ones.

But I was refering to just the scope of trying to fit it back together right.
I took one apart and the casing just would not fit back together right at all.

LOL, in my old rear projection CRT I would get bugs behind the screen from time to time. One time a moth or something got in there and was flying around. Unless it's a spider or something, it'll probably die or move on, it's not worth opening the TV up.

I hear ya. Lookin on the internet it seems this can be an issue with RPTVs. The big vents that give off light and heat can sometimes attract bugs.

If it just happened a couple times and then goes away I think I will just leave it for now. I have seen too many stories of people making things worse.

For now, I put some raid spray on a paper towel until it was moist, then I wiped the vents down on the sides and back of the TV. I had a slight ant problem in my apartment the last few weeks but since spraying raid around the house I havent seen one the last couple of days.

                  Thanks guys for the input.
