    Superman

As many of us know, eventually WB will start on the next Superman movie. IGN put together a list of villains they would life to see Superman handle on the big screen.

As cool as these villains are, most of them seem to unreal. In the comic books and cartoon shows, they fit perfectly, but having Superman fight aliens like Mongul or Doomsday just doesn't fit with the realism approach they're aiming for with these releases of Super hero movies.

It's the reason why the Phoenix saga in X-men was handled so poorly. However, Superman does need a villain who could at least give him a challenge physically. Lex Luthor is a great villain but he's so powerless when it comes to bringing action to the man of steel.

Out of all the villains IGN named, i think the perfect one would be Brainiac. Brainiac isn't completely out of the reach since in our current time, technology is such a powerful thing. How easy would it be for Brainiac to act as a virus and spread? Causing chaos every where he went. Not only that, he could team up with Lex or use Lex's advanced technology to build himself a body powerful enough to go head to head with Super.

Brainiac is a genius, so he could bring truly challenge Superman on more levels then one.

I'm hoping the next Superman movie really does give us the best of both worlds as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight did.

    Re: Superman

You can't aim for "hyper-reality" with Superman. You're not doing service to the character by making him more "realistic." The way to do that is to actually understand Superman/Clark Kent as a person, his motivations, why he chooses to be AMONG humans and not RULE them, etc. Then you add the villain.

Lex? Has been done way too much. If he reappears in the future, I hope they finally get rid of the camp and show what he truly is, a GENIUS with the best of intentions (protecting humanity from an alien) but with a misguided approach.

Brainiac? My choice as well. He has history with Krypton (he caused it's destruction), can match Superman physically and outmatches him mentally. If done right (like Geoff Johns did), he'd be great.

Doomsday? If he/it were introduced in a bit part in the new movie first and is given the chance to build anticipation (end scene of the first movie: Doomsday punching the wall trying to escape), who wouldn't be excited by that? Of course, they have to make Doomsday look right for it to work plus introduce some other heroes (the JLA tried to fight him in the comics) for Doomsday to hurt/kill to show only Superman can handle this threat.

Then you have Darkseid, Mongul, Superboy Prime (although people might get confused), Zod, Bizarro (as a support villain) etc.
