Re: Beastie Boy has cancer
I'm just plain stunned...
Yeah, I know he was fighting a serious battle, but the thought of someone so vital (musician / film and video director / avid snowboarder / activist / ETC / ETC / ETC) at such a early age is...
Stunning...
I've been "one degree of separation" removed from those guys and their extended circle since "Cookie Puss"...
VERY close to home / MY generation...

Re: Beastie Boy has cancer
RIP, very sad to hear.
Licensed to Ill was the very first tape I ever bought. Had the Parental Advisory sticker on it even though there wasn't a single curse word on the album - my how times have changed.
Like so many other suburban kids the Beastie Boys got me into hip-hop. I've listened to Licensed to Ill more than any album in history, probably even more than Illmatic. Hundreds and hundreds of listens. In HS I had every lyric to every song memorized from Licensed to Ill through Ill Communication The first 18 years of my life the Beastie Boys were far and away my favorite musical group.
MCA was my favorite of the three, his raspy voice resonated with me. They were just a fun group to listen to and easy to be a fan of. Plus all the great humanitarian stuff they did on the side - they're definitely legends in the music industry.
I'll be playing their albums all weekend for the first time in ages. RIP, Adam Yauch."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Wow.
Many moons ago I used to see the Beastie Boys when my brothers band used to play the Peppermint Lounge, Max's Kansas City...CB's ...when they were a hardcore punk band.
Even though they transitioned to other musical avenues...I stuck with them.
Sad to hear this news.
Way too young.

Also was a participant of those times and places...extending to Paradise Garage, Danceteria, Limelight...
Various recording studios...
They were (at one point, pre fame) just overly "rambunctious" kids from the neighborhood...
That being said:
Ugh...Comment

I never liked the Beastie Boys, but I can appreciate what he meant to so many.

Re: Adam Yauch, MCA from Beastie Boys, Passes Away From Cancer
Once the Beasties turned political, I stopped listening. I have no issues with them supporting a cause, but sometimes they went a little far with trying to shove the message down our throats.
I still bump the 80's-early 90's albums often.

I thought it was cool that SNL used a pic of him, name underneath with a simple black boarder as a bumper into commercial as a tribute / acknowledgement / remembrance...
No dates, no text...
Well played, IMHO...Comment

Not sure why part of the url from mlb.com I'm trying to post is being censored.
Anyways, this article includes a couple of links to tributes that have been done so far. There's a Coldplay tribute and also one where the Mets entire lineup came out to Beastie Boys songs.
