Not sure if it made a lot of money but it's the last movie that SFX pioneer Ray Harryhausen ever did. It must've done some good business or was a cult hit because I saw this movie back in my grade school days when my class was learning about Greek Mythology.

Why?

I get remaking an old major film with major actors or pulling a Departed and remaking a top notch foreign film with a fantastic cast, but at this point, we'll see a Gigli remake in 30 years.

It was a fairly decent flick at the time, unique and all, but kind of campy too (which is why it probably became a cult classic). The involvement of the sidekick owl was pretty stupid and detracted from the whole intensity of the thing.

I dispute it being a cult classic unless it's some foriegn thing I don't understand like it's HUGE in France.

Trailer has a 300 vibe to me. Having said that... I really liked the original and with Liam Neeson taking part in this one... I don't see how it can go wrong.

Well of course it does. I mean Ray Harryhausen WAS the cgi of his day. What he did over the course of his life was unsurpassed.

This one looks large screen worthy. Time to re-do Dragonslayer, too.

Ha, I loked the first one when I was a kid... and had the toy Kraken (sp?) as well as the mini Perseus with the head of Medusa.... I will def. check this one out. Looks good.

Like others, I absolutely loved this movie as a kid. I watch it now and laugh quite a bit at some of the scenes / acting, but as a young lad this was pure gold! Medusa's head, scorpion battles, invisibility cloak, that crazy mechanical bird, creepy blind ladies, and of course the Kraken!
