I'm in no way being difficult, O. I just don't agree that you can overlook EVERYTHING that has gone on in this show and get hung up on stuff like that. What are the chances that Sayid's brother lives in and is hurt in the same hospital that Jack is working at? And Jin just turns up and dealing with the same business man?

I could go on, and on, and on... but "chance" and "coincidence" are what make shows like this evolve a story. The entire bases of the show is like this.

Her not being Ben's biological daughter has been a huge plot point for Ben's character and the overall mythology of the Others.

Great episode last night. Widmore came out of nowhere. All the major players seem to be getting in place for the final run of the show. All we need is Desmond.

Des is still the one I think Jacob was talking about when he mentioned someone coming to the island. I don't think he meant Widmore.

I know what you are saying and my original point about the girl and Ben is null and invalid since he wasn't her father anyways. This show is not so much about coincidences though, it's about fate. I accept the fact that Sayid's brother is at the same hospital Jack is working at because of the believability of fate.

However, going back to my original point about the girl and Ben, it would be simply impossible for someone to run into someone in one reality that was the exact duplicate of their offspring in another. So I'm glad that I was wrong about it, that Ben wasn't her father in either reality, because that would have taken the show from the realm of the viewer being asked to believe and have faith, into simply insulting the viewers intelligence.

But again, all moot since she wasn't his daughter in either reality, so thankfully we don't have to worry about that..

It might help watching the first 5 seasons before the last one. I'm wondering how time travel, smoke monsters, communicating with the dead, and immortality are fine, but running into your offspring in an alternate reality is going too far and insulting the viewer's intelligence.

soltrain - because ben said he watched his daughter die and I didn't recall anyone else claiming to be her dad.

santino - because pared had said in the alternate reality she wasn't his offspring, but i thought in the island she was. time travel, smoke monsters, immortality, etc are all believable imagination-wise, because they serve to move the story forward in some fashion (and time travel, monsters immortality, etc are all issues which scientists have actually debated and some believe possible so they're not just out of left field craziness) but someone being your daughter in one reality but being another person's daughter (and thus no relation to you) in another and them being exactly the same in looks, appearance, etc not only would be unbelievable, it would serve no purpose to the storyline and thus make no sense. Then on top of that, couple it with that random person who just happens to look, talk, sound, etc like your daughter in the other reality just happening to run into you in a world of billions, goes from making no sense to being just completely silly and insulting.

so for santino and pared - by your logic would you be ok if jack just suddenly started flying around the island one episode? or how about if giant, flying 3 eyed tigers started attacking and eating the losties randomly? by your logic those sorts of events would be perfectly fine because other somewhat fantastic events have happened in the show.

the point is that these "fantastic" events that have happened in the story are usually related to the storyline and at least based in some scientific truth (as I said time travel, monsters, alternate realities, fate, faith, etc and a lot of these events that have happened on the island have been debated for centuries by scientists and the world in general) whereas just random, crazy things happening for no reason only serve to disconnect the viewer from connecting with the show.

Or we just trust the writers.

If any of those things happened, I have full confidence that the writers would explain them somehow, give them a backstory, make them mean something, etc. They wouldn't just be "random craziness" - they'd have some meaning or history as everything on this show seemingly has.

Sitting back with amusement over these last few pages, but really...smoke monsters being founded in some sort of reality? I'm sure the fog horn and gear clicking noises are also part of a reality, along with how it "grabs" people and can appear and have knowledge about someone who has died.

Call me crazy, but I'm loving the season so far. The little details and answers, from the slave ship Black Rock that Richard remembers (with depression and sadness, IMO) which fulfills some fan theories to Jack coming around to Ben's redemption (no time for ANOTHER double cross), and seeing the temple and what happened to Claire, keep me eager from week to week.

I highly doubt Cuse/Lindeloff/etc. will swerve us, and if they do, I won't be upset. The six seasons have given me one hell of a ride, and while a Sopranos-ish ending might disappoint initially, who cares! I still debate that non-ending with family and friends, and the series more than holds up on it's own regardless of how David Chase chose to end it.

soltrain - I didn't miss the story at all, our discussion was simply about one small part of it that i was confused about is all. the rest of the story was really good IMO, especially the contrast of corruption vs redemption that we've seen in the last two episodes..

longhorn - as for trusting the writers...there is no reasonable way I could see any explanation for the scenario that I put forth. that's why i'm very happy I misunderstood it.

johnny - nature is full of things we do not understand so yes it could be something that could be real if you are able to suspend some belief. my point was that it's one thing to suspend some belief when you're reading something, it's completely another thing to simply have random things happening just for the WTF factor.
