    BOSE: Buy Other Sound Equipment

I was in Best Buy the other day looking at speakers and headphones and the salesman there was raving to no end about BOSE, and I just don't understand the love this company gets. The salesman, being pushy, would not listen to me saying I didn't need any help, and finally asked me to tell him why I dislike, in his words, "The GREATEST speaker company of all time." What I basically said is this:

BOSE is the worst and most deceptive brand on the planet. Have you noticed how on their official website they won't post stats for their product? That's because they don't want people to know that their sound products cut out so much of the highs and lows on the sound spectrum as to make them the headphones/speakers with the worst range in the world. In fact, they have sued magazines and newspapers who have done tests to determine the frequency range. Not to mention they scammed the U.S. Air Force into spending millions on noise canceling headphones that didn't actually cancel out any noise.

More info on their deceptive practices can be found here:

What I'm curious about is this: how can people with a speaker/headphone set that only reproduces the middle of the audio spectrum rave about the products? Is it a placebo effect, the thought that they spent a thousand or more on the system so it must sound good? I just don't get it.

I happen to enjoy my Bose around the Ear Headphones. I wasn't forced into buying them by a sales person. I picked them up on my own free will.

I don't think it's a placebo effect at all. They were in my price range, and I thought they sounded great, so I bought them. Definitely happy I did. I don't know if they are better or worse than the "Beats by Dre" or other sets, but those weren't really in my price range.

    I know, it's amazing right?

As far as headphones go, Bose isn't horrible, they are just priced about twice as high as they should.

Beats by Dre are a joke, they are the Monster Cable of headphones (literally).

I wasn't saying you didn't pick them up out of your own free will, I was just curious as to why people like them, when countless studies have shown their products to be vastly inferior to their competition. Ever notice how in a store BOSE speakers are separated from the competition? That's because BOSE won't allow stores to showcase their speakers side-by-side with another brand.

I mean BOSE even had a college student called in front of the Dean for posting negative opinions of BOSE on the internet, which I find hilarious.

Re: BOSE: Buy Other Sound Equipment

Wow, that's funny you started this thread:

I recently bought some Bose on-ear cans about a month ago for $170. At the time I thought they were some of the best headphones on the market.

A couple days after my purchase, I started looking around online to see what some audiophiles thought about them. I stumbled upon this site

Notice, they give their opinion of the best headphones based on price and Bose is NOWHERE to be mentioned. The company I kept seeing popping up at all the REAL audio sites was Grado. You will not believe how much people swear by Grado headphones.

So out of pure curiousity I go to a local audio shop that sells Grado's and was blown away by the SR60's model. The bass wasn't as ridiculously overblown like the Bose on-ear's, but they were smooth and tight (like music is supposed to be). I was literally standing there with my mouth wide open at how crystal clear the high's and mid's were.......and these are $70 headphones!

Needless to say I bought them immediately and have been listening to all of my music with the Grado's to see what I've been missing out on. And I haven't even broken them in yet! I"m seriously considering selling my Bose's.

I love my Bose in-ear headphones.

I hate their home theater speakers. B&W blows them out of the water. After getting a pair of bookshelf B&W's several years ago for a birthday present, I'll never purchase any other brand. You just have to find a dealership near you.

It's all good. I like them because they sound good to me and are comfortable to wear.

As for studies, I don't know. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I just want something that sounds good. To me, that was Bose. I'm not a +.05db of mid-range equality sensor type audio product guy.

I've listened to some other Bose products and have walked away unimpressed, so I guess I don't have the total loyalty of some diehard customers.

Of course B&W are better than Bose, that's like comparing a Lexus to a Chrysler.
