Perhaps the most ambitious, and far reaching music project to date. Quote from the liner notes: "As we made our way around the world we encountered love and hate, wealth and poverty, many different races, religions, and ideologies. It became clear that, as a human race, we need to transcend from the darkness to the light and music is our weapon of the future." -Mark Johnson, project director

Re: Playing for Change
The sentiment is appreciated, but let's face it, this was tried in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's and music hasn't exactly unified the world from those efforts either.
Why? Because music, while it makes everyone feel good and taps on a part of our brain that produces a stronger neurological and biological reaction than an orgasm, it is an expression, not a solution.
Sure, music is a great compliment to many, many things and can be a great driving force in an individual and group effort, but it's not a logical vehicle for providing answers and resolve. In fact the word "change" itself gets thrown around so loosely as the "be all-end all" rennovating term, it's inert.
"Let's get together and feel alright" is a wonderful kumbaya desire, but truly waring groups are not going to embrace something that Bono does and suddenly join hands. It's just not realistic.
Have at it....... -
Re: Playing for Change
I appreciate your comments and you make some good points. But as far as unifying subjects go, music can bring people together and make them at least consider the possibility of peace. The unique quality of Playing for Change is that it involves global musicians. And the underlying message is that they can all speak the same language through music.Last edited by gopadres; 08-14-2009, 12:50 AM.NOW PLAYING: Battlefield 3, MLB 12 The Show
