Interesting but not too surprising given the countries that are ahead of the US as they've fully embraced internet technology.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

However, much like the video game survey last week, a major issue with this is implying that the 18% of people with dial up cannot get broadband. Some people are fine with dial up, especially old folk.Comment

Funny that you mention that...
One of my mother's friends actually said the other day: "I like my dial-up. It's faster than most internet connections these days because I'm the only one using it."Comment

Re: US ranks 28th in Internet Connection Speed: Report
A bit misleading also from the standpoint that the cost for your 20mb package might be 3 or 4x higher than your 5mb package and the need for the higher speed is just not essential to most people, so they don't pay for it. The study should entail efficiency, not just size. Offer the same speed for the same prices and watch what hapens.Comment

That is actually partly true. I did online football broadcasting last season and we were able to broadcast on 58k dial on stereo audio and browse the internet with no problems.Comment

Exactly. Population density and land area have a lot to do with this. Getting broadband out to all the rural areas is a challenge that is fairly unique to our country because of its size.Green Bay Packers | Milwaukee Brewers | Bradley Braves | Wisconsin Badgers

It's the same with cell phone coverage, the US is so huge that it takes time to get that infrastructure out there. Throwing up cell towers all throughout Europe is simple because it's all so small and connected.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Yep.
I'd like to see a survey that shows the coverage and quality combined.
I'd bet all things considering.....the U.S. would jump a little on that.
Alaska--------------Hawaii--------------Florida------------Maine(okay...you wanna make it Washington and SoCal instead of Alaska-Hawaii......still huge!)
I guess the only thing that negates that a little is that it is regional coverage(for your service)
