    Need some TV shopping advice

    What I'm looking for
    • $800 or under with tax
    • 34" or bigger

I probably have answered my own question though - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218064392359

    Other suggestions are very welcome!

Good TV. I would recommend the Panasonic if you aren't going to have surround sound setup. Samsung TV speakers tend to be weak, while Panasonic's are pretty good (for a tv speaker).

    Video wise, both are excellent.

IMO, Panasonic is one of the best with plasma.

The Sammy you listed in about $50 cheaper through Amazon.com with no tax and free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-PN42B4...2097615&sr=8-2

I bailed on that one, the resolution is awkward. That panasonic is looking mighty fine

            Awkward how?

            The 1024 X 768? That is standard for a 720p 42" Plasma. You'll never notice a difference.

My folks have that exact Samsung Plasma and love it, no problems with it on their end. Kmart has the 42" Panasonic Plasma for 599.99 this week and you get a 50.00 gift card apparently, even though the add shows it as 649.99 I checked the price tonight and it came up at 599.99 so thats a hell of a steal.

Kmart is a nationwide retailer of electronics, toys, clothing, bedding, furniture & home decor. Buy online, pick up in store. Find nearby store locations.

No the samsung, it's 1365x768 or something like that.

Awesome... Be sure to take it out of Vivid picture mode... put it on standard or cinema and then adjust the color, contrast, brightness to your liking for each input you will be using.

Co-sign. You'll get used to the lower contrast. For the first 100 hours or so you'll want to "break in" a plasma, just to be on the safe side.

Nice selection. You'll enjoy the Panny.

EDIT: I can't believe how fast the cost of HDTV's have dropped. Amazon now has the 42inch 1080p Panny plasma for under $800 with free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIER...2459468&sr=8-5

It is amazing. I bought a 50" 720p 2 years ago for $1450 w/ shipping from Amazon... it was a steal at the time. My buddy just bought a 54" 1080p from Amazon for the same price.

Did you get it at kmart using that deal I mentioned? I only ask because Im curious to see if the whole deal is ringing up everywhere as its supposed to be 649.99 with a 50.00 gift card and not 599.99 with that same gift card yet here its ringing up at the 599.99 price.
