10 paintings that look like photos

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Tags: None -

Those are amazing! I love the color palette used in #4.
If any, the self-portrait one definitely looks most like a painting. But if I had that kind of talent... WOW!

Re: 10 paintings that look like photos
I'm torn between #1 and #9 for most realistic looking one. #1 would probably reveal some blemishes and mishaps without the water effects, but because it's yet another dimension to realism with reflection and what not I'd say it becomes that much more convincing.
I should show these images to my friends (sans #5) and tell them to guess which pictures are real photos and which ones are paintings. It will be awesome when they pick like five out of the nine or so and then I reveal that all of them are paintings (or at least self-produced if anything).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Great minds think alike. I had a struggle picking between 1 and 9...obviously, I went with 9.I'm torn between #1 and #9 for most realistic looking one. #1 would probably reveal some blemishes and mishaps without the water effects, but because it's yet another dimension to realism with reflection and what not I'd say it becomes that much more convincing.

Re: 10 paintings that look like photos
There were three that had me thinking "this looks like a photograph" and that was the female portrait at the end, the shower scene and milk girl. They did amazing work on those.PS: You guys are great.

Surprised there is no Chuck Close. You guys should check him out. He's one of the greatest masters of photo realistic painting technique. He got it to the point where he could make a completely realistic painting by using big green and pink dots in different arrangements.Comment

I feel like there's a line when it comes to realism in art. Especially with portraiture, once you reach the point where it's indistinguishable from a photograph, while it's technically impressive, I feel like it takes away from the artistic value. Maybe I'm just nuts...Comment

Only if the subject would have no power as a photo. If it would be a powerful photo, but is painting instead, then I think it can hold even more weight. Also take into account that these things are rarely done justice in print, but when you see the live painting, you may really be blown away. In a lot of cases, it doesn't "become" photorealistic until you move back to the optimum viewing distance, so when you get close enough to touch it, it is very much so a piece of artwork.I feel like there's a line when it comes to realism in art. On the other hand, when someone just uses technical skill to reproduce something you might find on a random Flickr page, I totally agree with you.Comment
