So later on, I'm curious, and when I get home, I try to see what's good. I go to my wireless connection, and I see "xxxxx" and "xxxxx2", as well as "unidentified network", which I know is me because the signal strength is at the max, and I'm right next to the router. Now, I'm sure my joint is secure, but could this be some funny business, where someone has somehow hacked into my network?

Wireless Question for my technical heads...
OK, I like to think of myself as being somewhat tech-savvy, but I had a situation that really confounded me: I have a Netgear router at the crib, and I also have a laptop that I can connect to it. My network ID is "xxxxx". And when I turn on my laptop, it automatically connects to "xxxxx", even though I have it password protected. So a couple weeks ago, me and my buddies go over to our man's house for a fantasy draft, and we all bring our laptops. So when I boot up and go to my wireless setup to find his network ID, I see my network ID, "xxxxx", but it's listed as "xxxxx2", and it's connected. Now mind you, this is clear on the other side of town. I'm wondering, how could this be connected?

Re: Wireless Question for my technical heads...
The 2 is because someone probably had a connection with the same name that wasn't secure. You can check to see who is logged on to your router by going to 192.168.0.1 in an internet browser. The look for something like DHCP Client Table.

Re: Wireless Question for my technical heads...
Thanks dudes, I went to 192.168.0.1 to check my router settings, and the only ones attached are my laptop and the computer. I guess I'm good.Comment
